MUT can't see hde; why does pmount say it can? (Solved)

#1 Post by Petr »

Hi All,
I have an old Sony VAIO that uses the pcmcia slot to connect the CD drive. I installed puppy from this drive, so something is right; indeed pmount finds it and thinks it is /dev/hde (although it labels it a DVD)

MUT doesn't find it, but that is good, because when I look, there is nothing at /dev/hde !

I assume I have somehow removed /dev/hde (don't think I will ahve done it with 'rm' ) but why then does pmount think it is there?

Hmm. I figured out what I did wrong; The CD-ROM is only detectable at boot time. plug it in; turn it on; and the CD comes up under /dev/cdrom

turn it on; plug it in; and the CD comes up under /dev/hde, well it would if hde was there and the driver was running and ...

Pls ignore; I'm having a bad day ...
