Hi clarf,
Sorry to trouble you, as I know you are busy, but are you saying that increasing this to 1.8MB will resolve not just the Live CD issue but also the "can't load more than 3 sfs files at a time using 214X
14 issue??
Sorry if I am being dim. But just want to be clear.
Dave

No problem Dave, I´m in lunch time now and taking a little rest from work
This initrd has the same content from 214X13, then you can mount up to 20 SFS files like in previous version. I just resized it nothing else.
I also wanted to resize it to let us add more modules inside initrd, later initrd versions may include special drivers for a certain kind of hard drives or network drivers to access a network file system. Because the kernel needs that drivers to access the device on which the root file system is located, It could be used for netbooting too.
OK, I mean more free space to play with...

Okay I guess you mean same as 214X12 (ie with all the 20? ro_pupX files) but with more room (1.8MB).
I'll give it a try but will be away from tonight for a few days.
Thanks as ever
Enjoy lunch!!
Dave

ttuuxxx, couldn't you edit the desktop-directory Puppy-MultimediaBurn to the name CD/DVD Ripping. |
LOL my head must of been in cloud nine, I was trying too hard to change it with Xdg menus, lol thats what I get for like 15 updates in 1.5 days, lol
I'll fix it, thanks

Yes, the JWM menu system is a maze. xdg template & menus, desktop directories, desktop files & hidden tray & menu configuration files in root.

Just downloaded and burned 2.14 X 14 running live preparing to do a full install.
Really like the new theme and icon stuff. Cool.
Be back after I install and test a bit.

Well I got the Samsung working last time connected directly as well as over the net. So I guess I need to try harder.
Just a query, do I need to add your libcups-gnomeprint.pet or is it included in 214X14?
Thanks as ever

Hi dave I think I did, its hard to get it straight after so many retakes and releases, I'll toss it in anyways with the next release, if you have the pet locally just install it and see if it makes a difference.
When I click print and look at abiword I have lots of options, So I would say so.

Had I asked, I guess I would have been told that 2.14X14 doesnt play a DVD with gxine. I sorta miss the simplicity of Pfind. Matter of fact, I've always thought Pfind deserved a shortcut on desktop. One of the Gnome people was speaking on TLLTS about preferential use of search apps instead of traditional organization in named folders, as a usability adaptation to finding files (for users too busy or lazy to categorize their files).

what do you mean it doesn't play dvd's, I just tossed in faceoff and it played without issue?
open gxine --> click file --->click dvd
and it should start, then give it time to view the opening commercials and then hit play on the screen with the mouse.
ttuuxxx
Searchmonkey is just as easy to use as pfind and takes less resources, just delete the vdub_mini example text and type anything in and click start.

Nope, said "xine engine failed to start" when I clicked DVD. Even tried hunting for the player in the dev folder, same error message. Also gave a read error from /dev/dvd. I dont usually play a DVD when Puppy is running as a live CD, with disk removed. Maybe this is part of the problem.

did you bootup clean? puppy pfix=ram
because your the first one to say that it doesn't play dvd's, out of all these post. Open the dvd up and drag the file to gxine.
also Mu release a mplayer version that works on 2.14X today

Same error, booting with pfix=ram.
The xine engine failed to start. No input plugin was found. Maybe the file does not exist or cannot be accessed, or there is an error in the URL.
Just speculating, seems like the optical reader is not detected as a DVD player, rather as a simple CDrom.

FWIW, I am now running Puppy 4.3 as live CD and it plays DVD fine, without pfix=ram. I did nothing different.
device: LITE-ON DVD+RW SOHW 802S

Full install of 2.14 X 14 completed on my P3 test machine.
I can happily report that usb flash drives are recognized and mount/unmount as expected.
