I have used all of these pets on every release and never had a problem with them.

--- the bcm43xx issue was only in version 11. when you went back to version 9 to start over it was included and it was included in x12 also. i use bcm43xx and have had no problem with it in x12.

YESSS ttuuxxx those menu icons look superb. I like the fact that they look bigger and more pronounced and colorful.

I also like the darker theme (gtk or jwm, not sure i know the difference).

the only thing i really love with a darker theme like that is transparency. what do you think about patriots transparency patch?

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=39162

does it slow the system down by using kcompmgr?

Well patriots patch I haven't tried, I did think about it, but I'm trying to keep the resources as low as possible on here. So I dismissed it, If anyone wants to try it and report the startup memory differences with htop, Then I might take it to the next step, but I'm also wondering if it breaks the desktop icons like pwidgets does when you move a window overtop. That would take extra resources to repair etc, not the best for laptops either.

But yes the new 24x24 menu icons are great, I must of spent like 2 weeks over the past couple of years trying to figure it out, even tried changing the jwm sources and even contacted Joe himself, and nothing, but then I looked at the jwm-xdgmenu sources and there it was, the 16x16 icon setting, I just change it from 16 to 24 and compiled it and tried it and boom 24x24 icons, I also only had to change 1 xdg file located in /etc/xdg/templates/_root_.jwmrc
for shutdown menu size, that was different to the rest of them menu. So basically 2 things had to be change.

Bugger! Just tried to post a longish message and the whole post got lost as the forum s/w through a fit. I hate this forum s/w. :-(

Okay, second try, if I can remember.

Frugal install of 214X14

1. Live CD installed fine even with 14 partitions on this PC. Good news.

2. Installed as a frugal okay and recognised all my partitions.

3. Gxine now has its Menu entry again.

4. Osmo was missing its menu icon but that is back now.

5. Same old LED drive lights issue with MUT and Pmount. Hasn't anyone else seen this??? Can't just be me.

6. gxine seems stable as far as I have tried it.

7. The sub menu for Burning apps is a big improvement.

8. I really like the default jwm theme and chooser.

9. Tried to load 6 sfs files (all version 3.0) but would only load 3. Thought this was fixed?

10. Calculator is very nice. But for those who liked galculator is there a pet of that? Being greedy I know but you may have one handy??

11. Menu>System>CUPS has gone so used Menu>Setup>Printer wizard. Unable to detect either of my 2 networked printers. It did last time. Will try using them direct.

12. Sorry but no difference in that if run FF from Menu then on exit it still redraws the desktop. I can live with this...but I have now noticed it doing it once in a while with other apps eg just now after closing Puppy Linux Printer Manager.

13. MHHP's mods to petget work a charm.

That's all I can remember at the moment.

Dave

Hi dave the thing about cups is that I didn't touch it, so if it worked before it should work now, actually I just tried it on my local printer and it worked perfect.
When you launch it from the menu, and click "Click the button to install a new printer" don't do anything, just wait for it to disappear, takes about 1-2mins, then you should be good to go.
As for the multi-SfS +3 files, well they could be lost due to the removal of the extra pup_ro's files I delete, I only left 1-5 and deleted something like 6-20 as everyone mentioned that it should be like that, other than that I didn't touch anything else in the initrd.gz.
I just did like you recommended on this thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 836#345836

I bet you guys won't be happy until I replace hotpup with the current setup that puppy uses.
I might try tonight, if not tomorrow.

Try this, open a terminal & type modprobe usb-storage & press enter. It's not saved so I've edited /root/.xinitrc by adding, at line 140, modprobe usb-storage.

ttuuxxx: X14
Gparted showing swap partition fine now

deleted 2 partitions with gparted but they still showed up as desktop icons. Had to edit /etc/fstab to remove them.

you have a menu entry called cd/dvd burning under multimedia but it shows rippers & sox.

The short avi & mpg files in /root/puppy-reference/video still crash my computer & yet other video files give no trouble. very strange.

gsview not working properly.

Well I got the Samsung working last time connected directly as well as over the net. So I guess I need to try harder. :-)
Just a query, do I need to add your libcups-gnomeprint.pet or is it included in 214X14?
As for the multi-SfS +3 files, well they could be lost due to the removal of the extra pup_ro's files I delete,
That was my first thought as well. So I guess we need clarf to see if he can make another initrd that can fix this and the live CD thing

Thanks for the gcalc.pet

Personally if we can get an initrd that resolves these issues (and I can get printing again on my system) then I really feel it's just the best pup out there. That would be more than good enough for me. But of course others may have their issues.

Thanks as ever
Dave

Changed my keyboard back to USB & booted into my full install, as expected keyboard was dead so booted up another puppy, went to my full install partition and added these lines to /root/,xinitrc. line 140 onwards:

modprobe usb-storage
modprobe usbcore
modprobe usbhid

saved the file & rebooted. Worked a treat.

It seems USB modules are not being loaded at boot with a full install.

ttuuxxx, couldn't you edit the desktop-directory Puppy-MultimediaBurn to the name CD/DVD Ripping.

Yes same here with x14.

I've noticed since almost the start that /etc/fstab doesn't seem to get refreshed and wonder if it's also the reason for some of the MUT and Pmount issues I am having.

Cheers
Dave

Hi guys,

ttuuxxx you are so fast releasing new version and making improvements, outstanding work...

I have too much work now, and can´t work outside a Windows Machine (I´m just surrounded):( . Although I´m working with AIX Servers now.

Well I can´t download the new x14 version (what a hell long post very hard to find now any previous information). And can´t work in the init code to clean it, I´m thinking in add the ro_pupX directories dinamically using the max_loop variable passed with grub, also thinking in some more cleaning.

Meanwhile I resized the initrd.gz and i want you test it, the old size was 1638400 bytes (1.6 MB) an the new one 1843200 (1.8 MB). The added ramdisk space should fix any problem with extra partitions at boot, also let us put some extra modules if needed.

Please test it hard enough, even Live CD boot time if you want.

UPDATE: Removed attachment. Could finally test this initrd.gz last night, don´t solve the Live CD boot for large partition numbers, please wait for the new version.

Greetings,
clarf

Hi clarf,
Sorry to trouble you, as I know you are busy, but are you saying that increasing this to 1.8MB will resolve not just the Live CD issue but also the "can't load more than 3 sfs files at a time using 214X
14 issue??
Sorry if I am being dim. But just want to be clear.
Dave

No problem Dave, I´m in lunch time now and taking a little rest from work

This initrd has the same content from 214X13, then you can mount up to 20 SFS files like in previous version. I just resized it nothing else.

I also wanted to resize it to let us add more modules inside initrd, later initrd versions may include special drivers for a certain kind of hard drives or network drivers to access a network file system. Because the kernel needs that drivers to access the device on which the root file system is located, It could be used for netbooting too.

OK, I mean more free space to play with...

Okay I guess you mean same as 214X12 (ie with all the 20? ro_pupX files) but with more room (1.8MB).
I'll give it a try but will be away from tonight for a few days.
Thanks as ever
Enjoy lunch!!

Yes, the JWM menu system is a maze. xdg template & menus, desktop directories, desktop files & hidden tray & menu configuration files in root.

Just downloaded and burned 2.14 X 14 running live preparing to do a full install.

Really like the new theme and icon stuff. Cool. :)

Be back after I install and test a bit.
