Virtual Puppy
I remember seeing a site that allowed you to run (I think it was Redhat)
a virtual Linux in your browser.
As far as I remember your commands and mouse movements were sent to a server where the OS ran and then streamed back to you.
m m m . . . a virtual Puppy sounds good to me
for when I am next on a public net connection
Anyone up for a geek challenge?

I found a link on slashdot to a Virtual Machine written in Java, where they had got DSL and DOSbox working as examples...I had meant to post it as a link but lost it!
All I know is its out there....

Actually, VNC worked beautifully, the main problems were the bandwidth needed to do anything plus the large memory wanted in the terminal workstation. I wonder if anything could be done now, since these problems are minimised, after all VNC was when 100baseT and 128megram in workstations were considered over the top!sunburnt wrote:I think running a small core Puppy and having cloud apps. is a good idea.
And make it so the app. can be saved as a local app. if the user likes it.
Running the whole OS in a browser is probably a lot like VNC.
It didn`t quite live up to expectations either. It`ll be interesting to watch...
Yep, kind of like Vista (the world`s most bloated OS), everything runs better with ram and lots of cpu power.
But considering that the VNC client`s OS work is being done on the server, it`s a horrible waste of resources.
To run a small core OS like Puppy on the client makes it self contained and not totally dependent on the server.
When the web screws up at least you can keep on going in your own little world, just not connected online.
Plus having your own portable OS on a USB that has a ton of apps. to use while online is a rather nice aspect too.
