Puppy 4.4CE

#1 Post by Lobster »

Brad (aka Technosaurus) has kindly
offered and is keen to coordinate the start
of 4.4CE. :)
He assures me changes from 4.3.1
will be adoptable in 4.4
Barry will be free to focus on the 5.x series

I sincerely hope Ttuuxx who does
everything he can, will find time to help
Somehow he manages to find time. :)

I know we have the support and
efforts of our usual prgrammers, compilers, testers
artists, hosters, wiki updaters and Puppy Team
Maybe we will find new friends and supporters 8)

Hooray! Let's go:

I will create a separate thread this evening for posting and testing the initial pet packages for consideration. Allowing people to test the proposed programs on their existing 4.3X system will help to identify any issues early on and reduce the number of full releases required. Once the pets have been sufficiently vetted (~1-2 weeks), I will release the first alpha.
This process will be repeated as necessary until all Milestones and Goals are sufficiently met. During the process I will consider reasonable requests, compare them against Puppy's overall goals and make my own determination as to whether it is feasible or not. Any optimizations or improvements that do not increase size are an easy decision, all others will require some reduction elsewhere that does not negatively affect usability in any way.
I already have at least 10 milestones and will post them in the new thread this evening, but if you want a preview of some of the pet updates, just browse puppylinux.asia/members/T/444.

Just a reminder: we do have a "Next Puppy Development" section that you can make full use of. I can make you a moderator of the specific 4.x area if needed.

How about a change to BootManager so It can find SFS files in the Subdirectory for the Puppy version one is running.
This would help with SFS files for Puppy 43 needing to be ext4 format.
If the file is in /mnt/home and it is converted to ext4 format, it then is not usable by other Puppy versions.
The other thing I would like to see is to not have to add the version number to an SFS file to make it visible to the BoootManager.

Thanks to technosaurus for accepting the leadership for 4.4CE.

Wish him and co-developers all the best!

those probably won't be in the main iso but likely available as separate sfs or .pxt
