I thought I would pass this along.
I was running Seamonkey and looking for a better print driver for my Canon Multipass MP390.
I did a search using Google and started clicking on sites.
Well, here I am in Puppy Linux and what should show up on the screen but a popup that was supposedly doing a virus scan of my computer.
It even had a Windows explorer screen to try to make it look authentic.
I could not exit that site and had to kill it to get out.
I smiled to myself! Smile
Just imagine someone Brousing the web with Windows and the panic that would ensue.

Don't be too smug, and take it for granted that the only OS that can be damaged by a web-based exploit is Windows. Shocked Keep your guard up. Run Puppy Linux from a multisession DVD if you're really paranoid. Laughing

I had that happen to me on Ubuntu.
What was hilarious is the fact that Opera reports what site a JavaScript pop-up window comes from, so it was like "bestvirusprotection9.com" or something telling me I had viruses on my computer.
My dad had it happen to him on Windows and his virus protection caught it; but it was so bad and Avast! kept popping up trojan warnings (even when he wasn't doing anything), he had to use System Restore. D:

I thought I had cookies pretty well under control untill I saw this. So I did a search for .sol files and got so many hits I had to run the search again while redirecting the results to a text file just so I could study where they were.
Code:
find / -name "*.sol" >> /root/my-documents/flash-cookies.txt
Result:
118 lines in a text file. All of these were in either /.macromedia/* or /intrd/pup_rw/root/.macromedia/*. This I believe means I had 59 flash cookies on my machine.

After backing up my pup_save file I deleted the /root/.macromedia directory and replaced it with a symlink to /dev/null.
Code:
ln -s /dev/null /root/.macromedia
At this stage everything seems to be working OK including two of the sites that had previously set flash cookies. I guess time will tell if I have borked my system but so far it looks good.

I found lots of .sol files. Went to the listed macromedia site and deleted them. It deleted all except macromedia and Google.
