Audacity - sound editor |
|
Home: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Version: 1.39b
Quote: | Audacity® is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. |
Download: http://puppylinux.asia/tpp/aragon/audacity-STA-1.39b.pet ~8 MB
NOTE: Sorry i have confused some of you. 1.39a is a pet file, not a sfs. Now i have corrected the download link to link directly to the correct file.
Compile-Options:
Code: | ./configure --build=i486-t2-linux-gnu --enable-static --prefix=/usr --localstatedir=/var --sysconfdir=/etc --enable-ladspa --with-libsamplerate --with-lib-preference=local --with-ffmpeg --disable-shared |
It's statically linked against the lib-versions that come with audacity, so the following should be the only dependencies.
Dependencies:
- jack (attached)
- iconv (attached)
- lame (installed on most puppies, else official repo)
Compiled in Puppy-4.21.
Bugs (so far):
ffmpeg: Neither im- nor export with ffmpeg is possible. it makes no difference if i compile against the included lib, the system lib or an updated system-lib.
IF you have problems with this one try another test build here:http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=342266#342266
Please test and report back.

I used the SFS convertor in 4.3 beta 2
but found this lib was missing . . .
Anyone get further?
Code: | # ./audacity
./audacity: error while loading shared libraries: libFLAC++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
# |

It did indeed. Audacity is running but I can not record
(however I have not been able to record with this computer ever)
playback works ok - audacity seems a little flaky - but running . . .

lobster,
which version are you actually testing, 1.37b or 1.39b? would it be possible for you to test 1.39b on a pc where you have been able to record?

maybe test the 1.39b-version (although i don't have much hope....)
i don't know if putting together the old box is worth the effort. maybe someone else who's following this thread is able to record from external plugged mic.
if i remember right, i also own a mic, but have to remember where
by the way, have you seen this thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=46352 and the little gui from Bruce B? would this help you?

Thanks aragon
[Lobster wipes away salty tear]
I have been trying Multimedia / Soxgui and the recording option
and all sorts
Somehow I do not think the driver for the inbuilt sound card is being engaged
Good luck with Audacity - and remember you can use headphones as a mic
plug them into the mic socket and shout into them - ememrgency mic

Ok tested 1.39b...
Will only record a fraction of a second...a similar symptom which was bypassed by changing the sample rate but this doesn't work this time.
The audiocard is a cmi8738 rather than the 'known to have issues' one .
Portaudio is a known pain in the a**e so I assume this is where the problems lie...maybe its for ubuntu users only
The preferences dialog was a bit flaky too.

thanks for the info mike.
a feeling is getting stronger that audacity might be one of those apps, that remain problematic. it's partly working (mixing, effects,...) but the recording issue and the ffmpeg issue remains.
i will try to do an alternative build with shared libs. maybe this works better and failures with the libs will be more obvious on compiling stage...

Might MHedit or another of the less sophisticated audio recording apps be "brought to heel"?
