Dial-up modem not detected Subject description: Conexant serial modem not detected and solution
After struggling to make an early pet of the Hiawatha server work with my Puppy 4.20 I found that my dial-up ACF Conexant serial modem which I have been using for the last fifteen years was no longer detected by Puppy. After a lengthy investigation I found that the following lines had been appended to the file /etc/modprobe.conf (by Hiawatha I suppose)
alias char-major-62 ltserial
alias /dev/ttyLT0 ltserial
alias /dev/modem ltserial
I replaced the file with a clean copy from the Puppy 4.20 installation CD and my modem was immediately detected.
I now have the latest pet of the Hiawatha server working with no further problem.
