Hi tazoc,
Thanks for the smp build always like pushing the hardware.

two requests for the next build
1.) JWM that resizes windows from the top. The main reason is when a window opens longer than the phyisical screen you can not resize the window easily.
2.) This for the next kernel build. Please enable NFS kernel mode. It is the best way of sharing drives between two puppies.

thanks again

DC,
Thank you for trying Lighthouse Pup. I don't know how to fix JWM so it can resize from top of window. If you do, please explain/post a link. I usually use LXDE which can resize. (From JWM, Menu | Shutdown | Change window manager | LXDE.)

I don't know how to build a kernel or enable NFS kernel mode; I used the kernel 2.6.28.5 from Newyearspup. If you would like to help and can provide one with kernel modules, devx SFS and linux-patched SFS that would be great!

Hi tazoc,
Heres the link for the changes done to JWM
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=39162
The top down sizing was done back in march. Joe Wing(JWM) has also included Patriot's changes in the JWM builds.
I use a "jwm-456-i386-1.pet" to fix it. I don't remember where I got it from.

As to the kernel etc I'm in no any better postion than yourself to help. I'm still learning bash at the moment.

But the good news is BarryK has fixed his latest beta's to include the NFS kernel mode.

Thanks for the reply

DC,
Thanks for the info on JWM. I found this pet:
jwm2-456-1.pet
I extracted just '/usr/bin/jwm' and overwrote the version in LHP. Now I have top resizing. When I get a chance I'll look over the entire package and also jwmconfig2-20090506.pet for possible inclusion.

Hi,

unfortunately your pupplet does not work with
my Realtek RTL8180 based PCMCIA WLAN card
with WPA2 encryption..

I tested some other pupplets to see, if they
contain the latest WPA2 compatible
WIFI drivers.

The pupplets I got the my Realtek RTL8180 based PCMCIA WLAN card
to work with WPA2 encryption are Fatdog2beta and Turbopup and Flexpup.

I hope you can use this info to modify Lighthouse
so the WLAN WPA2 encryption will also work with Lighthouse pup.

Maybe you just need to compile the latest MADWIFI drivers
into it ?

Hope this helps somehow.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards, Stefan.

Hi,
in addition to the basic lighthouse pup 4.4.2c
I just wanted to install the software addon:
5-LHP-Mar-4c_442.sfs

andI just put this 231 MB file into the same root directory
on my USB stick as the other lighthouse pup files are located.
But when I boot this up, it only asked me, if I want to
load other pup_save.2fs files from other puplets I still
have on the same USB stick in subdirectories...

It does not load automatically or does not ask for the
5-LHP-Mar-4c_442.sfs file.
So do I haveto rename it to pup_save.2fs ?
Or how can I get this addon to install ?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards, Stefan.

Stefan,
No, should not need to rename Mariner. I would use a LHP442c CD, enter 'puppy pfix=ram' at boot menu, create a new pup_save at shutdown naming it something unique, say pup_saveLHP.2fs, then choose this one if prompted at bootup. Now if 5-LHP-Mar-4c_442.sfs is not loaded, open Puppy BootManager | Choose which SFS and make sure Mariner is listed at right-hand pane | uncheck 'Ignore above selection'.

I haven't been able to find any recent RTL8180 drivers. What I found rtl-wifi-20070221.tar.bz2 are from Feb 2007. I would try to compile them for the kernel in LHP if they were available. The MADWIFI drivers I found are only for Atheros 521x cards. Correct me if I'm mistaken--my wifi experience is very limited.

I am booting always from a 4GB FAT32 formated USB stick,
where I have different pupplets in subfolders to try them out as well.

Lighthouse I have in the root of the USB stick.

When I boot lighthouse without any pup_save_2fs file
(which is being asked during booting)
and without the addon software,
it just crashes, when I go to shutdown/reboot PC.

It just dumps some stacks values onto the screen and
the PC just locks up completely ..

Must do a full reset to get it going again...

Maybe you can have a look into this.
Many thanks.

P.S. Regarding the RTL8180 Realtek Wifi WLAN WPA2 supported
drivers,
please check into these:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 470#144470

I did not get them installed under browserlinux,
but maybe you can try to compile the sources into your lighthouse ?

Many thanks in advance.

Or if this does not work,
just ask the developers of Fatdog2 and / or Flexpup
which WIFI WLAN WPA2 drivers they did use.
Many thanks in advance.

Regards, Stefan.

Stefan,
The only things I can think of to try are:
Replace your initrd.gz with the Fat32 fix for LHP 4.4.2 C

Create the pup_save after pfix=ram, before starting X as prompted.

In xorgwizard use 2nd option, xorgwizard force vesa

Okay, I didn´t try this yet..
Just started without making a save file..

Okay, I will also try this one, but with just Vesa I have no
video playback acceleration, right ?

Yes, but hopefully it won't crash on shutdown. However, if you have an ATI or nVidia card, there are new choices for accelerated drives in xorgwizard after the Mariner SFS is loaded.

Thanks for the link, the rtl8180-0.22-Belkin-k2.6.21.7.pet there did not include sources and it linked to http://rtl-wifi.sourceforge.net/wiki/Main_Page the same 2007 drivers I found earlier. I will try to compile those or see if tempestuous can help.

Hi tazoc,

Just dropping in to say thanks, this is the first newer Pup(py) I've seen since the 4.1-alpha's in which GPartEd works.

In fact, I'm so impressed, I'm considering stealing her, ripping out all your WM's and the bling, and putting compiled-from-scratch Openbox on it. If I do, are ya gonna kill me?

Unfortunately this does not work either...
I just installed this pet, but it does not find the WPA2
connection. It sees my router but it cant connect.

Well, I have another problem.
Now after having saved first a pup_save.2fs file
the start and embedding of the Marina SFS addon works,
but I have to use XVESA for Xwindows, cause normal XORG
will crash all the time with my ATI card M9000 in my laptop
with 2.4 Ghz P4 and 512 MB RAM.

When I try to change from the JWM and ICEWM Manager to
KDE, it says:

KDE script '/usr/bin/startkde' not found.

Click 'OK' to continue.

WHat could this be ?
Does KDE work only with real XORG drivers ?

Well,
I did not yet downloaded the KDE addon,
but now have and it now works on my other
PC with NVidea 6150 chipset in 1920x1200 mode fine ! Great !
I used the latest NVidea driver in the XORG wizard.

I also downloaded the Compiy Fusion and will check this out now too.

Now only the ATI driver for Mobile M9000 and the RTL8180 WIFI driver must be fixed,
but this system looks really great here on my NVidea motherboard.

Many thanks again for this wonderful
piece of software.

Regards, Stefan.

Hi,
I suceeded now to install and load during bootup also the Compiz Fusion.

But it runs only smooth in LXDE WIndows manager, not in KDE.

Maybe this has something to do with the NVidea driver ?

I choosed latest NVidea driver in XORG Wizard and it also
seems to have a bug in Youtube, when I try to play Fullscreen it crashes.
But that I did already know from Xandros Presto, as this is a bug from
the NVidea driver.
Maybe you can have a look and compile the latest NVidea drivers
into it ?

Also I dont have the latest Flash version.

The version I have now is:
10,0,22,87 installed
but at Adobe there is a newer one,
but how is that installed ?

At Adobe you can onlz download YUM, RPM and tar.gz
packages, but no PET.

So how do I get the newest Flash version ?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,
I also still have the problem,
that always the US qwerty layout is selected although I
set it to German DE qwertz.

Can you please have a look into that ?

Many thanks.

@Sit Heel Speak,
Hello, glad you like it, by all means use it anyway you please. Grab the updated initrd.gz for Fat32 support. The kernel, Xorg7.4 and xorgwizard is from Newyearspup02 RC10. I gathered the GParted packages from Slackware at Jim1911's suggestion.

@hartiberlin,
Open /etc/keymap, should read 'de.map'. Maybe reboot would help? I think MU fixed that bug in Newyearspup, but I don't remember how. Or maybe try 'Regional & Language | Keyboard Layout' in KDE System Settings (in System Menu).

I haven't been able to get C-F to work with my nVidia box. Barburo reported that KDE4.2's plasma has very high CPU usage, hopefully upcoming KDE4.3 will help? I've been using LXDE lately.

I didn't know Flash has been updated. You can d/l and extract the tar.gz package from Adobe, then copy libflashplayer.so to '/root/.mozilla/plugins/'.

Youtube fullscreen crash in FF was reported yesterday, no fix that I know of yet.

I just set up an old desktop machine running Lighthouse pup 4.12 Final.
Most apps display OK but the text gets all messed up in firefox (see image).
If I use the scroll bar to move text off screen and back on it returns OK but as soon as I click on the page I get the fuzziness back. I tried changing font and also updated to the latest version of firefox - no difference. I just set up tkhearts and it displays incorrectly also in the title bar (image2).

Could it be drivers or graphics card or GTK?
I tried several different GTK themes and fonts but same result :(

I switched to seamonkey and the pages that were messed up in firefox display fine.

Maybe this problem has already been solved but I couldn't find it.
Any suggestions? This is the first time I've seen this and it's annoying.
I could switch to seamonkey but I prefer firefox.
B.
