this is ridiculous that i am still talking about this but i thought someone might want to know if they didn't already.
heres something fun to try. i went to usr/local/apps and pulled the lock icon down to the desktop. restarted x and it said my pinboard has been changed to the new xml format and everything was gone. try it, its a great way for someone not smart like myself to have everything disappear. Razz

lol thats a new one, I'll try it whenever I'm about to reboot and start compiling clean again Smile

On another note, I found a new default bmp skin, you can see it at the winamp site

http://www.winamp.com/skins/details/170606

It worked really well, all but the eq, when you moved the eq it left blended coloured lines on the screen, so I had a look at the graphics.
The bottom of the eq image was missing about 15 or so lines, below is the the image I made up to fix it, now it works perfect Smile, I'm just informing you guys just in case you run into this problem in the future, you'll know how to fix it Smile

How easy is that?

Easy enough for a Crustacean. Smile

Trying v1 it in Puppy 4.3 pre beta
The export to a movie worked but not flash
or any slide transitions
Also I could not vary the time between slides
(this option just grayed out)
that is the bit that is useful for me
- normally I have to use OpenOffice

1.5 version of the program is out
if anyone would like to compile . . .

ttuuxxx????

I have added some of the BMP skins which OlddogNewtricks mentioned on page 71 and moved them as suggested. Now BMP looks much better (to me, at least) even though some of them are quite dark.

So I then added the BMP-plugins-FLAC_AAC_WMA but can't see them in the BMP >Preferences>List of plug-ins. I guess, like the skins, they need to be moved to another directory?? But which one??

Cheers
Dave

Hi dave, You've probably got the right directory /usr/lib/bmp/Input but your plugins are dodgy. I see libflac.so is present, but like the ones you added that doesn't show in the list either. I found a log file here /root/.bmp which says libflac.so plugin failed to load.
A job for ttuuxxx or other expert.

in later version there is the /usr/sbin/fixpuppypin which is run from /root/.xinitrc. this corrects the position of xlock. you might want to look if it also exists in your version, it might interfere your change of position.

Hi OlddogNewtricks,
Yes I have a message against FLAC in /root/.bmp/log
Hope ttuuxxx can fix this as I plan to use this as my standard in the future.
Cheers
Dave

EDIT:
meant to say I plan to use FLAC for all my audio coding in the future.

1. I tend to agree with OlddogNewtricks in that I like a nice simple taskbar. No need for a (small) analogue clock there. I much prefer a digital one anyway with date display. And prefer to launch FF from the left side near Menu as separate (larger) icon. Just my opinion.

2. Yes, perhaps BMP needs a better looking skin as default.
Cheers
Dave

I totally agree with Dave and OlddogNewtricks, I don´t like the idea to have many items in the right side of the task bar and a Digital clock looks nicer.

About BMP, well I´ll prefer XMMS but the EQ bug is a killer problem, though a better default skin is prefered for BMP.

I also want to thank davesurrey for testing hard each release and give detailed feedback from them, even with his mother´s health problems, hope she is better now dave.

Hi guys these are the 2 BMP themes I'll toss in, the Bento will be the default. Man talk about a pain, lol I spent about 8+hrs just making them fully functional, some buttons wouldn't show when click, some parts like balance were missing or eq section etc. now they are pretty good.

Thanks for the new BMP skins. Is it me or do so many of these look quite dark. Anyway they make BMP look much better IMHO.

Thanks for your kind thoughts about my Mother. It shows just how friendly this forum can be.

I'm not sure that it is so wise to move the Xlock icon by default, fixpuppypin and some later scripts (which I don't know if they're in 214X or not) uses the horizontal position of the Xlock icon as a reference point for the right-hand-most horizontal co-ordinate of the present screen resolution. If that horizontal reference point does not coincide with the horiz. screen res. -32, then restarting X, (or possibly, just running the background-setter) could flush all other icons on the right-hand side of the screen to the right-hand-most-side of the screen, including the Xlock icon.

The Xlock icon can, though, without problem be relocated vertically.

So, sinc, if you want to keep it on the desktop, I'd guess that it is more likely to work if you switch horizontal positions of the Xlock- and the Trash-icons (as per your posted pic).

It is possible to delete the Xlock icon from the desktop, though, but I'm not sure if that wouldn't affect the positions of the icons if the screen resolution is changed.

By the way, I like (and use) Xlock (both the function and the icon Smile), and I've always kept it in the upper right corner.

And yes, aragon, fixpuppypin is run from .xinitrc in this version too.

Meant to answer this last night, but I was too knacked Smile.
cheers/

man I never knew that lock would be such a pain, lol its funny I usually hate the location, because if the window is not fully max, and its off by like 2 mm, the you click the corner the that dumb lock pops up, its happened to me tons of time, I only have it on the desktop because a few users use it:)
I'm thinking maybe move it for one release and see if there are any issues? If so I an always just stick it back, easy enough to do.

Anyways Here is my last and finally remake of a winzip theme, I always like this one neon theme but I found it too flashy, and I always like that last winamp theme and found it a bit not flashy enough, so I combined both and what a job that was to do, pixel editing etc, anyways hope you enjoy it. thanks mhhp. at least now I know there is a reason for it to keep right justifying. I was just wondering why that was the only icon that did that. i thought it was just a bug that never got worked out. did you ever try pulling the lock icon onto the pinboard from usr/local/apps and restarting x? is that supposed to happen?

i really think you guys are geniuses. i love all the knowledge on these forums. my wife really thinks i'm a nerd but i like just reading all of these posts and being amazed at how much you guys know. Wink
