You2pup works (June 2016) YouTube downloader

#1 Post by trio »

WORKING AGAIN AS OF 25 June 2016
Hi,

This is a Tool for downloading youtube:

dependency: rxvt

PLEASE TEST

Little issue, since i am using video name as output nme, if there are ! Or maybe some other marks, mplayer doesnt open. You have to rename it.

version 2.8.5: no browser version, bugfix: forgot to put you2pupsearch file in pet (sorry)
version 2.8.4: regular version Gui - use consistantly /root/.you2pup/tmp, no nee relaunch gui when search
No browser version: GUI - reconstrcted by Zigbert
Script - streaming play added
version 2.8.3: Gui - enable multiple downloads
- No_browser version: auto refresh VID when clicking pic when searching
version 2.8.2: script - get video name as video output name
gui - bugfix remember last dir, gui width
version 2.8.1: New download script by me....2 version GUI (1 with the help of browser and another without/independent0
Version 2.8: You2pup stand alone, no need browser (search function helped by Zigbert). Note: the perl download scripts fails for some videos
Version 2.7.8: I changed the download script to a modified perl script from https://calomel.org/youtube_wget.html , the bad thing is that it doesn't give options to download, only mp4 by default ( you may change the script to download other format. but only1 at a time). I will try to convert it to bash so that I can easily suit it to my needs. I don't know any perl :D . at least it works on my slacko 6.3.0 with its perl
Version 2.7.7: GUI - add firefox search button (if firefox is available), so user can launch you2pup before opening firefox. on its first search launch, you2pup window will close and re-open in 10 secs (to give time for firefox to open if slow connection), remeember the catcth url button only appears if at least 1 firefox youtube window is opened and focused

Other browsers still can copy and paste as usual

Version 2.7.6: just cosmetics, use scrolling text
Version 2.7.5: tested in slacko 6.3 with firefox
GUI:
- Decided to go with b version which give multiple urls if available in firefox data
- Have to open at least 1 FIREFOX tab/window of Youtube video to make button appear
- Non FIREFOX user can still use it by copying & pasting video_id
- Now list with title to make user easy
- give info if url(s) is not yet ready in firefox data
Script:
- wget only, no curl
- still can be used in many distros as stand alone cli app (dependecies: bash, wget, dialog)
- Now can grab .webm also

Version 2.7.4: - Bugfix - when checking if output file exists
Ver .a: supply video id box with the only opened YouTube window. If 2 or more, than it will supply video id of first opened YouTube window ----> deleted (buggy)
Ver b: presents selections of video ids to choose
a and b, firefox only with opened YouTube window(s)
Remember to be a bit patient, firefox updates data in every 15 secs

Version 2.7.3: precautiion if two mozillas installed, read firefox .js file only
Version 2.7.2: with URL catch button, to easily fill video id box (appears only if using firefox (mozilla) on current opened YouTube window). Works with firefox in slacko 6.3
Version 2.7.1: add warning if output file exists
Still can be used as cli app only. See usr/sbin/you2pupscript or type you2pupscript in terminal. It is only bash and dialog, common in other distros also.
Version 2.7: GUI is back! remembers last save dir, add 1 audio dl opt if available
Version 2.6: It's a commandline app only (will make gui later). Can be used for other distros (see /usr/sbin/you2pupscript). usage: see pic
Version 2.5: Change how functions work
Version 2.4: Changed how to get "video code" AGAIN - Zigbert's URL example, page 14
Version 2.3: Changed how to get "video code" - thx Sigmund
Version 2.2: Works for me, please test
Version 2.1.3 - Fixes if there's "/" in title, 2 versions available, for general puppies and for lupu520/wary (with urxvt embed option)
Version 2.1.2 - Only for LUPU 520/wary (or any puppy using urxvt with -embed option), rxvt now embeded in you2pup window, option to abort (see picture), non-resizable window
Version 2.1.1 - For general puppies, Change gxmessage with Xdialog for warnings, use /tmp folder for tmp file, a bit cosmetics when in rxvt
Version 2.1 - MULTI FORMAT DOWNLOAD ABILITY, took out the conversion and play functions (back to basic), no need to spesify name (auto-naming) - Thanks to Mr. Arif AGAIN!! http://arif.suparlan.com/2011/02/23/dow ... ell-script
Version 2.0 - New Download Engine!! Works as per FEB 2011 - Made and tested on LUPU 520 - Thanks to Mr. Arif http://arif.suparlan.com/2010/07/30/dow ... ipt-update

Update-Stopped working again (May 2010)
still works with new site of youtube (April 2010)

Version 1.3-2 - Fixes if the vid ID begins with a dash, it won't download. (e.g. youtube.com/watch?v=-sulDYYAiCU) (thx to Kenhelm)
- Note: Always use one word file name for new downloaded file
Version 1.3-1 - rearranged GUI
Version 1.3 - Play function added, off course after you download/convert first
Version 1.2-2 - using rxvt to command ffmpeg (convert function)
Version 1.2 - added, file conversion function
Version 1.1 - ability to choose directory - thanks Lobster

Menu entry is under "Internet" group

Don't forget to run fixmenus, restart w manager (older puppies)

For people running Firefox extensions like "Download helper" should be more convenient... not sure if any of them work in Seamonkey.
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

New, considering that the new flv from youtube can't be played even in VLC, I modified you2pup to download in mp4 which can easily played. see main post

I don't see the need for it.
It's simpler and faster to use this method.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

Rjbrewer,

Maybe not for you, I always think to make puppy easier for newbies, and non-technical users, that is to create GUIs. So, maybe somebody will see this useful

It's easier for a newbie or anyone else to use the
method in that link!

The method in that link worked the first time I tried it and every
time since for months now.

Your new widget will be nice, but I,m mostly concerned with
seeing the capabilities of pstreamvid expanded and perfected.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.

Full installs

so little that I don't need to give it more work.
Works OK :) Many thanks
had to run
/usr/local/you2pup/you2pup
until I found your program under Menu/internet
perhaps it should go under multimedia?

use a file select button for the destination of files

Code: Select all

<hbox>
 <text><label>Dest Dir: </label></text>
 <entry accept="directory"><variable>DEST</variable><input>/tmp/pm_mirror_dir</input></entry>
 <button>
 <input file icon="gtk-open"></input>
 <action type="fileselect">DEST</action>
 <action>refresh:DEST</action>
 </button>
</hbox>
you can see a working example here (in 4.3 prebeta)
/usr/sbin/pwsget

Hope that is useful 8)

thanks Lobster, I used that method to choose DIR in PET MAKER .. anyway, maybe you're right, newbies have to be guided through the whole process, even forced to choose a right directory...

just another option, seamonkey has a addon which takes you to:
http://dys.lexal.net/flv/downloader.php? (it's free despite all the pay signs.) worked the couple of times i tried it for youtube. at other sites not among those listed there which mask the swf location, failed to download the swf file.

edit: as with videodl.org as soon as i posted it to this form it now also fails to get youtubes

Trio,

Sweet! Not to show my age but this is one of my
favorites even thought it's dated and not the best
quality.

Everything works fine. And is where I would expect
it to be under Internet because it is an Internet app.

Trio,

Yes I think Puppy is for anyone. It certainly is pulling at some of the cobwebs in my memories.

One problem I have is with applications found on the various Puppy outlets. That there is generally no clear indication which PET is for which version of Puppy.

Even OpenOffice on Dokupuppy? does not most of the time say which version of Puppy it is for. Names like OpenOffice-3.1.sfs for Open Office 3.1 dosen't indicate which version Puppy it is for.

This leaves users having to guess which sometimes can result in problems.

Maybe that is something the Puppy outlets could add. And that is what version or versions of Puppy a particular application is for.

Thanks again.

Doesn't work in my upup 466.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

Use peppyy's puppysearch

I copy the url, I select the directory, I give a file name and then push the button to go for it.
Nothing happens.
There isn't significant difference between 466 and 476.
If you2pup works on upup it should work on any version.

Beem,

Have no idea how upup or any other pup work. I only use 421 and 430. But you I suspect the executables became non executable. Please check from terminal:

Which youtube.sh

And post what you get. You said notjing happened, but did rxvt pop up or not?
