Re: 2.14X4 Network Configuration problem... |

Hugh wrote: | ttuuxxx and all,
I've downloaded your spectacular new version and really like the way it operates! And looks too!
But, I'm not able to get it to set up the network wizard to 'see' my att dsl. It does 'see' ETH0 but isn't able to successfully set up comms no matter which options are tried.
This problem isn't unique to your project so it must have something to do with the version of Wizard used.
No problems with dialup - works great!
No problem with the Network Wizard in 3.01 or 4.12R, so I presume they're somewhat different?
Would anyone have any clues? Or, is anyone else experiencing a problem with their dsl connections? |
Hi Hugh could you try the latest wizard and see if that helps, and if not, whats the make and model of your modem.

|
Well I sometimes want to view an image quickly. And other times I want to do a general search for an image which may even be hidden. eg in /root/.thumbnails/background.
With Ristretto I have found that it sometimes can give me a thumbnail image initially (this may be when the image is large) and then after a small wait the full image appears. Gqview seems quicker.
Also for finding files it sometimes doesn't seem to find "hidden" files
or greys-out a list of them even though it will display them.
These are small issues but never had a problem with Gqview. It just worked.
Just noticed that Ristretto doesn't have an exif viewer so that rules it out for me. Also I find mtpaint's window decoration too distracting when I want to view a photo. Viewing pics on a paint system seems wrong to me ??
I accept that some of this is subjective and you always like to reduce size, which is a good thing. I suppose it comes down to individual's preferences. To me 300kB for a good picviewer is Bytes well spent. I'd delete everything under Games myself but I doubt that would be popular
It's your call of course ttuuxxx but if you delete gqview could you make a pet as an option? I may be wrong but on my system it seems better for the large DSLR images I often produce, especially with exif included.
Cheers

Hi dave by the time you replied it was already removed but you can always download it from the repo Also if you wanted http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-2/gqview-2.0.1.pet also if your up to it, I'll compile a few other viewers and maybe you'll test them
You've been a asset to this point and well I aim to please the helpful ones

Thanks ttuuxx, very kind and helpful.
As I said I am just one voice so certainly don't expect everything to change just for me.
FWIW, if I can be of help I'll certainly be willing to test any other viewers.
I'm away this weekend, just as I expect you will be launching version X5, so won't be able to offer any feedback until early next week. Please don't think I've lost interest, far from it.
Cheers and thanks again.

Hi dave are you going to be around for a bit? I'm starting to compile them now, The first One I've liked for about 6 months now Its usually about 1/3 of the size, the reason why its so 180kb or half the size of gqview is because 2.14.1X doesn't include Gconf where as most newer versions of puppy do, So I added it, but If we went with this one, I would be more than happy to include Gconf, its used by many other programs. The funny thing about this viewer is the name Viewnoir noir is french for black, but it comes with locales and they don't supply a french locale, how that ? lol

Hey dave here's one you'll really like
and I Quote "Geeqie is a browser for graphics files offering single click viewing of your graphics files. It includes thumbnail view, zoom, filtering features and external editor support.
It is a successor of GQview, which is not actively developed for a long time, but Geeqie is currently considered alpha quality so you might want to stick with GQview for now. "

Too fast, too fast, slow down ttuuxxx!
I checked out viewnior and then geeqie.
1. Viewnior...nothing wrong with it but seemed to be like Ristretto without the slideshow. Except...the dev does hint that he may add an exif viewer.
Six of one and half a dozen of the other.
BTW: The French for black is noir. This is nior as I found out when I tried to get it to work typing viewnoir at the command line! I think the dev is Bulgarian.
2. geeqie. Now we are talking.
Exif info, slideshow in fact seemed to do everything that GQview would do plus more. Fast easy interface on the basis that it's a lot more sophisticated. Love it but its clearly a WIP.
This was a super quick look at these two as I am very short of time now and must leave for the weekend. If I discover anything more I'll post Monday.
HTH
Cheers
Dave

This one is usually a puppy favorite due to the size and functions, This is the full version with all the locales, If it gets used, then it will be about 1/2 the size

ttuuxxx,
Appreciate your response to my earlier question. The problem was my 'ancient'
ethernet board. Replaced it with a newer version and all is well!
Your revived ver. 2 is very nice!!

Hi Guys I compiled the latest gimp, the background on the rulers is kind of messed up, but it works just fine, plus I compiled DBP (David's Batch Processor) and included that, you would think that would be included as default, it works great, just remember you can't go from a gif to jpg, you have to first batch from a gif to a png and then from a png to a jpg.
The Batch homepage is http://members.ozemail.com.au/~hodsond/dbp.html
Gimp Download
http://www.ttuuxxx.gposil.com/2.14X/graphics/gimp-2.6.6-i386-2.14X-Batch.pet
Locales+Docs
http://www.ttuuxxx.gposil.com/2.14X/graphics/gimp-2.6.6-locales-docs.pet
Ps if you don't like the rulers being messy just click /View/Show Rulers and then they are removed
To use the Batch Plugin click /Filters/Batch Process

Well I spent the night reading back on the notes and trying to make some sense out of what I read, lol
Plus I spent most of the time working on pmout&MUT, basically I managed to get Pmount working from series 5, It was a bit of work, lol and also Since the Mut with the scroll bars was a hit, I rethemed it and change the fonts, So It looks like the last one, Series 5 Pmount has tabs, but not for each drive, That will have to maybe happen for the next release. Maybe tomorrow I might be able to get it all together
Ps is a picture of all 3 versions, the new mut, the new pmount, and the older pmount.

The buttons and files icon of the third image (pmount with tabs for each drive) are excellent - perhaps it can be used for the current pmount? Thanks, ttuuxxx.

Hi Raffy
I'll try to work that out for v6, but for v5 It will be the first 2, also I added the third one in usr/sbin/pmountbk so it could still be just renamed to pmount and it will work, really I'm just changing them for when you have 9+ partitions, no many users have that much. I don't and I'm somewhat a puppy power user. lol
