Hi

Here is another one.

I created the Puppy logo in wings3d,
then took a screenshot of it and used GIMP to colour it up.

Image puppy3d-normal.png = 1280x1024 = 379k

Image puppy3d-wide.png = 1680x1050 = 444k

.

P.S
Sorry about the size of these things.

Ditto here, CatDude....and that electric text really is just too cool...you're partial to that particular font, aren't you? maybe coz it works so well with the effects you give it.

:D

Great work CatDude. Maybe you should start posting tutorials on how you do these stuff using Gimp.

I think i must be mate, i have got at least 500 fonts  in GIMP,
and i find myself using that particular one quite a lot.
It's chunky but rather nice with it, if you know what i mean.

I think that there are plenty of GIMP tutes already on the net,
that show what can be done using the various tools etc.
That's probably the best way to learn things, then just start doing your own thing.
There are also so many scripts/plugins available that make doing some effects even easier.

For example, that puppy-electric.gif
was created using the Electricity Logo Animated (new) script, available from this page: http://gimpscripts.com/?page_id=5
It is the last one below where it say's Scripts Updated To Gimp 2.4

Download and extract it to either: /root/.gimp-2.4/scripts or /usr/share/gimp/2.0/scripts
if you decide to put it in /usr/share/gimp/2.0/scripts
MAKE SURE GIMP IS NOT OPEN AT THE TIME YOU COPY THE FILE THERE
Otherwise you may end up Freezing the system. (YES, i have done it a couple of times myself  )

Then start GIMP and you should then find it at: Xtns > Logos (MS) > Electricity (With Animation Option)

CatDude....yes, i recently tripped over a thread where Ttuuxxx posted links to some great Gimp tutorials and my mind fairly boggled at the possibilities when i sussed the links  ahhh, i anticipate a few hours disappearing down the Gimp-Gurgler without too much trouble at all! And thanks for the Electricity Animation script info...that'll no doubt vaporize a few more hours somewhere along the line..

Heh, not hard to get carried away with fonts either, is it? Must've downloaded 1000's onto my Window$ drives over the years and probably would've been flat out using a quarter of 'em

:D

Well, for the past 3 - 4 hours
i have been trying to replicate the effect in puppy-electric.gif
and i couldn't quite get it looking the same.

Below is one of those attempts that came close, albeit a little more pronounced electric24.gif
the image electric24.png shows the settings that i used to achieve that effect.

I think the crucial thing is to make sure the setting: Lock Electricity settings with text size?
is UNTICKED.

As to the Grow: and Electricity: values,
i think it's just a case of trial & error really.

I hope this helps

P.S
Note to myself: Pay more attention to what you are doing in future
