Latest gcompris sfs

#82 Post by ljfr »

hi sorry for the delay, I set up a new download place:
http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/GcomprisSFS/

with 2 folders:
-one "split" folder with 4 SFS (gcompris 1cf, doc, locales, all sounds) and in the Sound directory a pet for each language if necessary.
-one "allinone" SFS, a merge of the 4 previous SFS.

If someone could host those files, it would be helpfull, since I don't know how long this new ftp will survive.

gcompris sfs 8.4.6 beta

#83 Post by Peter444 »

Apologies for the delay in giving you some feedback

Downloaded ok, i normaly use puppy as a multisession live cd and these seen to have difficulty in using sfs files

So I loaded turbopup alpa3 onto a usb stick using ubutwin, then loaded your gcompris sfs

I have tried most games at level one and what ever the highest level is, they are not the same for all games

Only issue to date is Tux paint open and closes saying cannot find something?

Might be a screen resolution issue i will try a few options and report back later, (qualify)i only loaded the small version no sound and english only this might have some effect

Normal issue with the big red cursor, need to open the sponge game first to get it to change from small black to large red

Thank you for the time and effort you have put into this project

I will load it into upup476.iso when i can get it loaded onto a usb stick

Health Wealth and Happiness for the future

gcompris sfs 8.4.6 beta for test

#84 Post by Peter444 »

ljfr , I have revisited your beta sfs, the message that comes up when you try to open Tuxpaint is

cannot find tux paint
install it to use this activity

As I downloaded the small 68m sfs i assume that Tuxpaint was not in the package, is this correct?

Regards

Peeter

Gcompris 8.4.12

#88 Post by ljfr »

Hi,

To be tested, I compiled gcompris 8.4.12 on puppy 431 with dependencies,I split packages between main/doc/dev/NLS, and uploaded everything in that folder:
http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/pet_packages-4/general/
It may end in a smaller package.

To avoid many dependencies, I disabled few plugins in gstreamer, and gnet in gcompris ... so read the README file:
http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/pet_packages ... ral/README
to get some details, It seems gstreamer is just needed for sounds -so no need for libvisual, libtheora, ...

It also works on my PC on puppy 412 with few package update- see README.

NB:In the same folder, you will find pygame, childsplay, pysycache -menu is broken, type pysycache in console ...-, updated tuxpaint and tuxpaintstamps...

regards,

The svn trunk had SDL for a sound option before .13 was released - did anyone test that method yet? SDL is much more useful for games than gstreamer anyways.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

sdl mixer

#90 Post by ljfr »

You're right the configuration option --enable-sdlmixer reappeared with the version 8.4.13, I am doing some tests, if it works, will update with a 8.4.13 sdl version.

gcompris 8.4.13

#91 Post by ljfr »

Hi,
First, thanks to technosaurus, the version 8.4.13 works great on my pc, with sdl mixer on puppy 412, I don't even have to update alsa-lib to get sounds,

Gcompris 8.4.13, and dependencies:
gnucap + gnuchess + python + pysqlite + pycairo + pygobject +pygtk + SDL + SDL mixer +tuxpaint
to be found here:
http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/pet_packages-4/general/
It's really nice since SDL is already required by tuxpaint anyway.

regards,

NB: I disabled gnet, and on puppy 412, still have to update:
-glib to version 2.18.3 (mainly to get libgio)
-sqlite to version 3.6.12
which you can get here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... ackages-4/

Hello,
I am quite new to puppy linux and i would like to add gcompris to my puppy linux setup.

I would like to add the site described in this topic to the list of repository:
http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/pet_packages-4/general/

I could not find the Packages-db-file to add to the PET_REPOS variable in /root/.packages/DISTRO_PET_REPOS, i.e.:

Code: Select all

PET_REPOS='[long line with official repositories] http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr|http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/pet_packages-4/general/|What-Packages-db-file-do-i-type-here'
Am i mistaken to consider ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr a pet repository?
If so, could someone indicate me the procedure to install gcompris on a vanilla 4.3.1 puppy (on internal hard disk)?

Thanks in advance

this is not a repository

#94 Post by ljfr »

Hi Cloud2006,

This is not a package repository, this is just me compiling some packages and putting them on a personal page, there is no Packages-db-file (but I may check how this work).

To get Gcompris, you need to download and install:
gcompris-8.4.13-i486.pet
gcompris_NLS-8.4.13-i486.pet (optional, localization for other languages)
gnucap-0.35-i486.pet
gnuchess-5.07-i486.pet
libpaper-1.1.23+nmu1-i486.pet
pycairo-1.6.4-i486.pet
pygobject-2.20.0-i486.pet
pygtk-2.12.0-i486.pet
pysqlite-2.5.5-i486.pet
Python-2.5.4-i486.pet
SDL-1.2.13-i486.pet
SDL_image-1.2.7-i486.pet
SDL_mixer-1.2.8-i486.pet
SDL_Pango-0.1.2-i486.pet
SDL_ttf-2.0.9-i486.pet
tuxpaint-0.9.21-i486.pet
tuxpaint-stamps-2009.06.28-i486.pet (optional)

You could get them from my page, http://ljfr2.perso.neuf.fr/pet_packages-4/general
...or compile them from source, I set my configuration options
inside a readme file if necessary,

Thanks for the fast answer ljfr,

It worked fine :) ... i am just a bit too used to software repositories to get things done manually, my bad.

This is what I find about those Packages-db-files, and here is a link to an official one.

Thanks again.

Spanish sounds for gcompris

#96 Post by angelsguitar »

Hi.

I successfully installed gcompris on Puppy 4.3.1 following your instructions. Works perfectly. However, although I installed the localizations files package you provide, I' m still missing some Spanish sounds (mostly sounds of letters and numbers in some exercises). I tried to get them from a .deb package (the stable branch) but seems that the version they are using is not the same.

Any idea how can I get and install those Spanish sound files? And where do they go, if I have to install them manually?

Spanish sound files

#97 Post by ljfr »

Hi,

You could try the package from debian:
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/gcompris-sound-es
You might even try sound files from earlier version (9.2.2 in debian sid) since Filenames seem identical.

Where do they go? click on "list of files" on this debian's site (or after installation browse the relevant file inside your /root/.packages folder).

If it is not working, you may also get them from gcompris official site:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcompris/files/
or ask forum member sidders, I think he tried gcompris in spanish.

Hi.

I just realized that the Spanish files are actually included and installed with the gcompris_NLS-8.4.13-i486.pet package. However, I'm still having problems with them playing back in GCompris. For example, if I select the game where I have to listen to the name of the letter and press the corresponding button, the name of the letter is never heard most of the time. In other words, I get the "Press the letter..." part in Spanish but the name of the letter which is to be pressed is never heard. Sometimes I have to press the "lips" button to be able to hear the name of the letter.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Everything else is working perfectly.

Thanks for the help so far.

sounds

#99 Post by ljfr »

Hi,

I faced the same problem a while ago (on the click on the letter activity) and filled the bug here:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=580498
the current status is resolved and indeed it works on version 9.2, I don't know if it comes from the program or sound files, but anyway you could try sounds from version 9 or higher.

Fullscreen in version 9.x.x with JWM

#100 Post by ljfr »

Hi,

For your information, Gcompris version 9.x.x fullscreen mode is buggy in JWM, it seems a JWM issue (it works fine with other wm). Using a patched 492 JWM doesn't help...
