Installation of Acer Aspire One derivative...

#1 Post by rjl »

Hi I've got an A110 with SSD - I've downloaded, MD5'd and used unetbootin to create a bootable usb of the derivative here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=35424

I like it and want to install to the solid state drive. The install procedure seems ok
- I mount the usb drive so it can find the files iso files.
- I use the partitioner to creat a 6.5GB ext filesystem, format and set boot flag. + 1GB swap
- I choose the default boot loader

I answer the questions by entering alphnumerics then it starts installing, however after it says copying .sfs files it stall and says - "cannot find zdrv_*.sfs".

Looking at the boot USB this type of file doesn't exist.

I was wondering how people have managed to get this derivative onto their AAO

Thanks, any help is much appreciated.

I would try to install from the CD rom, not the USB key.

The acer aspire one doesn't have a cd drive so that's not an option - unetbootin creates a bootable usb pen and loads the iso file with the same information that burning to a cd would (or at least it should). When you look on the USB drive there is no zdrv_*.sfs files - these are the files the installation can't find.

You could borrow an external USB CD burner, or you can ask for more specific help on the Aspire One Puppy tread:

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't zdrv sfs a Puppy 3 file?
Are you using the first or the second version of that AAO puplet?

Hi, I just downloaded the iso file (acer-puppy-410-27.iso) from the above link - used unetbooting to create the bootable usb with the iso image on - booted from usb, chose puppy at the boot screen - played about with it, liked it lots, then tried to install it using the universal installer from the right click --> setup menu. My knowledge of puppy doesn't run beyond that. Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place (i.e. started a new thread - I think it should be in the thread linked to above, really sorry. I can't see any way that I can move it, I'll ask the moderators)

I also looked quite hard on this forum for the modifications I'd need to make to the latest version to get it installed and working on an AAO but came up with a blank - Given there is a specific derivative for the AAO I imagined downloading and installing this would be easier :-)

By the way pupitup is running on my AAO for almost 6 months now, you can try it on yours.
It's a music studio, but it also has the usual softs + some more; Qcad, blender, skype, HTTrack, and some games.

Download it here: http://pupitup.org/

Read all about it on this tread:
