How to install Handbrake .deb file? (Rip, copy DVDs) |
|
Hello to all those much smarter than me...
I've had nothing but horrible results in trying to copy DVD's using:
Pdvdrsab
K9copy
DVDShrink (using Wine)
I've read very positive reviews of Handbrake, so I downloaded the .deb Handbrake file.
How do I install & run this in Puppy? I'm using the most recent version of Puppy...
Thanks for any help!!!

Thanks gposil !!!
Okay I downloaded your links and installed them. Now I have a dependency problem. There was a very long list of lib files.
Shouldn't these come with the .pet package? If not, where can I go to find them?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Latest version of handbrake requires VLC to be installed. Not sure if this is giving you any trouble.

I knew there was another reason why I offered the 0.9.2 version.
libcss is needed for any handbrake but that's usually present already...and small and cute if not otherwise its very self contained. They have added more input formats and most output changes are aimed at macintosh...try mentioning linux on their forum and see how fast you get yer head bitten off. They were even talking of dropping dvd input support at one point. Very arrogant and ignorant but a good program.

mikeb,
I thought interest in DVD rip/copy would continue to grow. Still enjoying the handbrake GUI you provided. Thanks again.

how to run? |
|
am I missing something? Probably lol
I downloaded both pets and installed fine.
there's and entry under menu/multimedia called handbrake but clicking it does nothing. is there a commandline startup? Not used to command line so if so do you have to be in a certain directory or maybe find the folder in rox and click on the application?
thanks in advance

I entered "handbrake" in the forum search and got a whole bunch of hits. I don't have time to search through them for you but you can try it yourself.

I found...
1. Midnightsun-003-tmix.iso includes a recent version of Handbrake in its PPM.
I installed it and ran it [my 1st time ever].
It looks good and seems very simple to use.
Tried it on a commercial DVD, and it did nothing.
I assume that's because of some kind of copy protection.
2.
(a) Also tried running the handbrakegui executable packed inside the .tar.gz file provided in this post by mikeb.
Download the file to any handy folder...
Unpack it...
Copy or move the handbrakegui executable to the /usr/bin folder...
Open a terminal window...
Enter the command handbrakegui...
And take it from there.
(b) I couldn't get this older version of Handbrake to proceed with its operations.
Here's my post in that thread reporting on that.
