How to transfer data from crashed hdd to new hdd?
Is this a possibility? I have a Dell Dimension desktop and it doesn't acknowledge my hard drive. I have a new one to install. Is there a way to transfer my files onto the new hard drive? I'm not afraid of opening my tower to try to exhaust all possibilities before taking my tower to a computer shop. Any suggestions or advice would be helpful! Thanks.
What Puppy version are you using? The newer versions try to auto-detect the hard drive and show icons on the desktop. Do you get these? Can you click on them and mount the drive?
If not, your best bet is the "freezer" trick, but you need a USB-IDE cable. The idea is to remove the drive and cool it down in a freezer. Then bring it out, connect it via USB and see if Puppy can detect it.

Do not take your comp to a shop.
Goodbye data.

After you pop in your new drive....
You can run GParted on the new drive and
hide the first partition...
in fat 32
so you still have a recovery drive.
The second partition format as NTFS.
