Still certain things I can't do in Puppy, so I still have Windows. Eventually I want to replace it with a system I can get a dual-core processor, PCI-E video card, and more than 1GB RAM in.

Currently paying for this through a rent to own place. Getting ripped off on the price, but have terrible credit. And it's my two front teeth (ie all I wanted for Christmas.) After paying it off, I plan on putting at least another GB of RAM in along with replacing the battery (Windows says it's at the end of its usable life, Puppy goes through it in about an hour) and a solid state hard drive. Possibly replacing the screen (viewing angle bugs me a bit.) I saw somewhere online that would take Macbooks and convert them to tablets. Wondering if it can be done with my laptop (guessing yes, wondering how much it will be.) Plus there's some board by the RAM in the computer, wondering if that's the video memory and if it can be replaced.
I plan on doing photo management and eventually getting a Wacom tablet and doing some drawing. I'm more a take a good picture photographer than a fix it in Photoshop photographer (especially since I can't afford Photoshop, still haven't played with the GIMP alot yet.) Other than that, just web surfing, word processing, playing music and video, ripping music (at least 256kbps) and light gaming.

Dell laptop C610, PIII-1.2 Ghz, 256 MB RAM, Intel wireless-G internal mini-PCI. Running 1024X768X24 Xorg and rocking!
AFIK, everything works (haven't tested the dial-up modem yet, but it is seen and shown as an option on the "Connect" screen).
Running Puppy 4.2. No setup problems except this d@$% ATI video card! Xorg wizard and/or manually editing Xorg.conf would not prevent a "shaky" screen. It seemed to be a too slow (waaay to slow) refresh problem. I solved it by setting for 640X480 then manually (forcing) 1024X768. Rock solid now.

Toshiba 3110CT install
Here are my experiences installing Puppy on an old Toshiba 3110CT laptop. Might be of use to someone else.
Spec PII 300 MHz, 192 MB RAM, external PCMCIA CDROM.
Boot from USB not possible as far as I know (someone will prove me wrong). Puppy 4.2 retro version Live CD. Start laptop, holding down C to boot from CD. Shortly after loading the Linux kernel the system appears to lose access to the CD drive and the boot aborts. Solution was to load a copy of the 4 files needed for booting onto a USB drive as well, together with the empty marker file. After the system loses access to the CD, it finds files on the USB drive. Can then run installer and install on HDD. Puppy Linux, when fully booted, can access the CD.
The same thing can probably be done with a wakepup2 floppy/USB combination.
It is probably possible to use PXE network booting. That's how I got XP onto the machine before I had a CD or floppy. Much more work though.

as described in the subject, three notebooks:
ibm thinkpad x41 (laptop, not tablet), switched to USB flash because the 1.8" HDD replacement costs more than a netbook.
let's note r3 - borked HD controller, puppy with flash revived the machine.
victor interlink pc - that was a netbook before the netbooks, just right for puppy.

and i find that i perfer JWM over IceWM.

since the local paper is full of reports of laptops stolen out of pickup trucks. This one isn't worth all that much but works fine for e-mail when wireless internet is available.
Everything but the sound works. The Neomagic sound driver is blacklisted by the kernel so is disabled. I tried loading DSL with its old kernel and loading with that just stops at the sensing NM256 line.
Other machines:

Hi Again All,
Ive been messing around with a old lappy and have done a full install of Scorpion puppy.

(i chose this pup as it has a neat lil script for restarting the alsa driver as well as it uses iceWM which i prefer over JWM)
Its a old Tosh satellite 2535 cds
Mobile pent mmx @.300 mhz
96 megs (32 onboard) found a 64 meg stick in a local pc shop
60 gig hd from a parts lappy i had(still puzzled how the 10 yr old bios sees this drive)but who am i to complain
floppy/cd drive/ 1-usb 1.1/
Pcmcia wired card(had to set to 16 bit in bios)(wish i could find a wifi card to test but $$ tight atm)

using dillo 2.1 as main (fast as heck)and firedog as secondary
using for mail/music/browsing

great lil older lappy im on it now, And since my main 2 rigs have over 650 watt p.supplys this will be a great way to save money as well as better for the environment
