TV Channels Pwidget

#1 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello,
Thought Id start a thread about TV Channels for Pwidgets..
A place to post working channels, or a whole collection..
Also working up a tutorial on how to get mms addresses from the web, via the asx files and wget....

So heres 1: FoxJapan..Fox TV in English, commercials in Japanese..LOL
mms://202.167.254.196/FOX
And another: SciFi Channel
mms://85.214.87.175/science-fiction-tv

When I get a bunch of proven channels, I will post a tar.gz of them all...

@Oh Yea, in case no one knew, these mms addresses can be pasted into mplayer itself, and played fullscreen!!!!!

Fullscreen TV..

#3 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello,
The attached folder is an example of how to use mplayer`s cli to play streams fullscreen. Just unpack and click on the Script to watch.. Click escape to Exit..
Easy as Pie..Even included an icon..

Copy it and change the mms address, (and the name) for different channels...(see above)..

I`m hoping Trio will include a "Fullscreen" button in the Pwidgets Channel Changer..But till then this will suffice... :D

For U.S. baseball fans: "Baseball's Greatest Moments." Replays of historic games from the past. Recently watched David Cone's (NYY) perfect game.

It would be great if someone could make a channel collection package for Pwidgets. Trio or me will easily include it. To see how things work, check out /root/.pwidgets/tv_channels.

Thanks

I see we`re on the same track...LOL..
I,ve got about a half dozen so far, but working ones are about 1 in 12...
Finding good ones is time consuming, hence my "cry for help" (largly unanswered as of yet..LOL)..I`ll keep posting them as I find them...30 or so and I`ll make a pet..
@pistoi0...Your Baseball Channel has been added to my PupTV Guide....THX....
@Shortcut on the "tutorial" about asx files..(Playlists)...
Go to a website that streams video, ie www.disney.com..
Choose a stream...Either right click on the video screen and click "copy URL"..or
use the "view source" option of your browser, to look for the asx file address..
If you find an asx address...ie....http:/192.176.254.196.disney.asx...(not a real one)
Use wget to D/L it ...ie...."wget http:/192.176.254.196.disney.asx"
Open the resulting file in leafpad or geany and look for the mms address...
Copy and Paste it into the "Channel Chooser" or Mplayer itself..

Actually, I just deleted "the special feature" of Tv widget (bigger Tv screen at center top when Tv is not chosen in pwidgets)...It somewhat have a problem,...but your script might help those who wants it back (sory for that :lol: )

Please make a dot pet out of the channels, and upload in pwidgets thread

Parental discretion advised here

merlot56's thread

Now here's some cool audio that plays in Tv widget by a Puppian! Check out his thread if you want, it's kind of a political rant with heaps of cool music, different genres, some interesting stuff. Each episode goes abourt 40 minutes.There is over 4 hours listening that I'm posting in links. AUDIO ONLY!!!

Just copy these links to the Tv channel plugin and save as whatever you want and hit 'play' Do not paste the bit in brackets! IE "(Sundown XXX)

Hello Jay,

Now that BK has picked up "Pup TV" we best get our fingers out and fix the default channels, and perhaps add functionality so that the user can input their own channels.

I notice the only one working for me in upup is 'fox 11', BBC has a message saying it is moved, most others give a gxine error, perhaps they are moved too, Nasa works for me sometimes.

If you need any help just ask

Cheers

:D Mick,
Yea, ironically, if you read the original post, I just wrote it to learn about making a GUI...The idea is completely redundant if you know how to use the CLI...
It was designed with Mplayer in mind, hence my Mplayer-SVN for PupTV .PET
For Gxine to stream properly, it needs Gxine 0.5.11..
I am considering repackaging it with Mplayer built in, and eliminating Gxine from the menu until Puppy goes to Gxine 0.5.11...Or build in Gxine 0.5.11 as well...
What do you think???
As for channels, the good ones dont stay up for long..(IE FOX-Japan)..
For user input of new channels, it would be easier to rewrite it to grep a text list of channels and add new entries as text instead of scripts, but I dont know how yet...Just "Bashing" my head...
I tried to hack the PwidgetsTV script for it, but no joy...
So yes, any advice/help would be great..

Hi Jay

Yeah I think user input is the way to go. Shouldn't be too hard to hack your script for tv channels, and then maybe put a list of them on the wiki, with a radio button on the gui pointing people at the wiki, so they can just copy and paste channels if they wish. I'll have a look the scripts over the coming weeks. Any mods I do I'll post here and comment "#micko".

Barry has gxine working ok with woof. So leave that part alone IMO.

Cheers

ttuuxxx' Gnomemplayer works okish with puptv.

I've made some short progress on scripts. I've set up each channel as a variable... and made a .tmp file to store the variables and put a line in the puptv script to read the variables... all prints correctly so far.... It should be straight forward to write a "Change Channel" gui and replace the vars in the .tmp files and generate new scripts with the respective urls... got the job ahead though!

Code: Select all

##--------variables---------->>
BUTTONICON="mini-eye.xpm" #mini.window3d.xpm
SCRIPT_DIR="/usr/local/puptv"
MINI_ICONS_DIR="/usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons"
#read channels.. micko
CHANNEL_FILE=/"usr/local/puptv/channels.tmp"
. $CHANNEL_FILE
echo "SCRIPT_DIR='${SCRIPT_DIR}'" > /tmp/PUPTVCONFIGVARS
echo "MINI_ICONS_DIR='${MINI_ICONS_DIR}'" >> /tmp/PUPTVCONFIGVARS

MPLAYERSTUFF="   <vbox>
    <hbox>
     <text>
      <label>$CHANNEL1</label>
     </text>
     <button>
      <input file>$MINI_ICONS_DIR/${BUTTONICON}</input>
      <action>$SCRIPT_DIR/$CHANNEL1 &</action>
     </button>
    </hbox>
    <hbox>
     <text>
      <label>$CHANNEL2</label>
     </text>
     <button>
      <input file>$MINI_ICONS_DIR/${BUTTONICON}</input>
      <action>$SCRIPT_DIR/$CHANNEL2 &</action>
     </button>
    </hbox>
etcetera...

This calls the scripts too but the trade off is that the gui has the same text as the scriptname.. no spaces.. small price to pay IMO

The mods work fine with mplayer and gxine :)

The only alteration needed to this script now is to add a button calling the channel editor.. THAT is the job in front! I hope it doesn't bloat puptv too much, it will certainly add a few kb! :lol:

Cheers

Hello again! 8)

I'm making progress on the gui to change channels. There is now a button in the main 'puptv' gui that opens the 'Change Channels' gui.

The idea is you can change any of the eight default channels to something else and it should all be set up automagically.

I have the change channels gui up and running, but the vars are not working as yet. There is a help button that points right to this thread!
It should point to a wiki page.. any one up for making a wiki page for puptv channels? After all, it is in upup as the default TV app!

Here's a sneak-peek

Well done Micko!

here is another one.
It is not intended to replace pupTV, it is just an example for coding in Genie.
Maybe it is of use.
It is not well tested, as I just finished it, and am too tired for longer tests.

I started it a while ago to learn, how mplayer can be controlled remotely:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... &start=150 (at the middle of the page).

I now spent the whole night to find out, how I can close and open new filestreams to control mplayer :roll:
But now it seems to work.

I added a tree to select the channels, they also can be edited. I used the channels puppyluvr has posted on may, 23rd.

If there is interest, we could try to use only the tree as an optional window for mickos solution.
I think, how he handles mplayer and gxine, is better than in my program.

I encountered, that with mplayer 1rc2, I have no sound with the channel "The Elegant Universe".
So I uploaded a svn version of mplayer, I had compiled for tests.
It is not a "complete" pet, but intended to be used in addition to an existing mplayer installation.
http://dotpups.de/puppy4/dotpups/Multim ... ppy412.pet
I tried it in Puppy 4.12 as "addon" for the pet I posted here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 1&start=30

To activate it for the TV-viewer, you must edit /usr/local/bin/mplayer-pupwebtv like this:

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/MPlayer/libs1rc2
#gmplayer "$@"
#mplayer.bin "$@"

mplayer-git "$@"

Thanks Mark,

The code for mplayer|gxine is Barry's. It is in Upup. I'm only trying to make a channel changer because channels come and go, most of the current ones in Puptv don't work anymore :cry: (or are blocked by the Great Firewall of Australia :lol: )

It would be a dream to port the whole of puptv to Genie. I'm sure Barry would be onboard once he gets Puppy-5.0.1 "out the door" (his words :wink: ). Then Jay and myself could have a page for page comparison. I think once bash scripts are ported to Genie, which may eventually happen, that we will all have a greater understanding of Genie.

I'll take a look at your examples and maybe it will give me some ideas.

Cheers
