ttuuxxx, forget about the 2.13. I think that is missing necessary driver for the network. To make it smaller, whoever made that, had to delete some drivers and that's probably what happened.

I met even worse one, 2.01r.-barebone And had more trouble than I imagined.
Many non executing menus not to mention No reboot. I had to CTL+ALT+back shift to get out.

There were no pet files available and I spent considerable amount of time just to download needed PUP files.

Many PUP files did not work. Themes got all mixed up. Task bar disappeared. Couldn't change the background image. Then all of sudden screen background became a solid color.

When themes changed, icons disappeared.

I had hell of time to clean up the mass.

Do you know why I am telling you all this?

I want to tell you that I thank you for your effort to update the 2 series.

You are actually doing something and posting the "journey".

I have tried very basic modification and learned something.

I appreciate your effort.

Hi guys well its starting to come together, first I made a pup_214R.sfs image then I made the iso by using 4 series commands and well it hung like 2.15ce, then I started thinking maybe its a squash file thing or something like that, Sooooooooo I took the sfs file and made a regular remaster using the puppy built in script for it, and then when everything is in the folder and its ready to create the iso image I deleted the 289MB pup_214R.sfs iso image that it made of my system, and replaced it with th e edited version and boom it made a 96MB iso not bad, so then I quickly tested and it booted to the desktop, it was missing a usr/lib/gtk system link so the icons weren't working but it worked, wow excellent, now I'm going to make the link and reburn it and start testing :)
I can finally see the light at the end of the 214R tunnel :)

Hi everyone!

Hope that load_sfs and unload_sfs scripts will be included/updated in this projects (updating 2 series).

Load_sfs has been included in Puppy 4.2.1 and jrb's choicepup.

These scripts are very useful also especially in loading the sfs compiled files including the devx file. (without rebooting)

It would be nice if your updated Puppy could handle a frugal install to a sub directory like the 4 series Puppies. A very good feature IMO.

wow thats a request and a half,lol ok I'll see what I can do, do you have any links? or should I wing it?

Also hey Guys, I'm very close to finishing this now, I just had it up and running and it was working grrrrrr8 :)
I was missing a couple of icons in the menus, missing 1 lib, I tried a few programs from 4 series repo, 5 out of 6 worked :) The one that didn't was my xfburn package it needed a higher glibc from 4 series, But I couldn't upgrade that, that would cripple the ISO, I did upgrade a heck of a lot, plus it looks nothing like 2.14R. Anymore ideas programs? I'm at around 98MB, not bad for about 128MB of updates (extracted) mostly backend.
I might be able to release it either tonight or sometime tomorrow, I have the new updated devx ready also, but I think I might update some more of the devx.

Well guys I won't be finishing tonight, so you might as well take these last few hours give some ideas what programs should be updated, or installed, within reason :)
So far as applications goes it has
Xmms and latest - Xarchiver, Transmission, Htop, epdfview, JWM, Blinky, Seamonkey

as you are compiling updated puppy-2 packages, you could if you wish put them in pet_packages-2 at ibiblio. Request would have to go through WhoDo, and WhoDo would have to update the 'Packages-puppy-2-official' file at ibiblio, meaning that he would need the package information in the new standard format.

Note, I have fixed some bugs in the Woof puppy-puppy build. Amongst other things, the Puppy Package Manager now works properly in that situation.
In theory, Woof could also build puppy-2, I don't see any reason why not, then you have complety updated puppy-2 infrastructure in one hit. All that would remain is to upgrade application packages.

After I get home (I'm still in Melbourne) I'll make the puppy-2 kernel into a PET package so Woof can choose it.
There are a few other PET packages that I would have to create, but as I have already been through the exercise with puppy-4, I know exactly what to do. So I'll do it, upload all required PET packages to ibiblio and Woof alpha10 will be able to build puppy-puppy-2.

Hardinfo would be nice if not already included.

Also click on ISO or sfs to open would also be useful - if not already included.

Conky with a battery readout - that would be fantastic.

Hope thats not asking too much 'cos it sounds like you've been busy enough with this and Dpup, upup, etc.

Sorry ttuuxxx, I don't know either but i guess it's a kernel aufs enable thing or something. (I am not good at those things :( )

It's okay. Just continue with your project. I am just around testing some great puppies including yours.

Re 'frugal install to a sub directory' -
p214R already has the ability to boot from a subdir several levels deep [have not tested how many]. This is the only 2 series puppy with this ability. Other p2 versions needed pup_xxx.sfs on root, and later versions even pup_save on root [including p215ce]. Very inconvenient for multiple frugal installs. This was partly solved in p216 with 'psubdir' and a better version in p217.

If ttuuxxx keeps the original init this should work fine. All puppy files can be in a subdir, and for any file not on root grub will need: SFSFILE= ZDRV= & PUPSAVE= [specifying the subdir as in pupstate: vfat,sda3,/puppy2/pup214R/]. This all works like in the 4 series, albeit with different params as above. I suppose the ultimate addition would be keeping pup_save on a different partion, as crash has demonstrated in another thread. But that is based on series 4 search routines, completely different from p214R. I don't think ttuuxxx plans to rewrite the complete search routines of p214R? And anyway it would probably only be useful in some extreme cases.

thanks vg1, I'm going to remove XMMS due to the fact it somewhat buggy, it freezes up if i drag and drop a non supported music format, I compiled BMP which uses the same skins and it doesn't have this flaw, plus its 1/2 the size:)
once thats done I'll give it a test and then we'll see where we're at.
I don't really want to release like 10 update versions, so I'm working out most of the bugs first :)

basically I've found 1 bug, when you run the puppy package manager, and click on dependencies check, it doesn't work. It works fine on my building pc, but not on the built cd, So if anyone could figure out a fix for that it would be great.
Also could someone come up with a name for this please?
I called it 2.14X <-- lol nice name. Anyways I'm starting to updat more packages, I just compiled the latest Geany and Gftp, which will go in the next release. enjoy. And please give back some feedback :)

Well if you find some fixes, I'll add them :)
When I'm totally finished I'll list the apps, since its still a bit on-going, :) I'll hold off a bit.

Oh ya I still have to add flash, I'm testing different versions out, trying to get fullscreen working on youtube, Kind of hard with older Glibc.

I should of tried that on my testing pc and not my building pc, which I've been building this for around 5 days live,lol it froze rxvt so I quickly exited X, but too late, I'm glad I posted a picture of the packages that clarf requested, because of that, I moved all the packages to the hard drive and saved the day:) So everything is safe :) I'll use the new devx to test it out tomorrow.
