Multi-cores will be useful
- in graphics-intensive desktop work (like video editing)
- in servers
- in scientific/grid computing (the less you use your PC, the better for the grid)
else to ordinary users, a single core (the "normal" PC) will be sufficient, and a sub-Ghz PC at that.

Sounds as though I have to figure out a way to acquire a dual-processor 64bit laptop.
Need portable multimedia server and video editing capacity.
Storage doesn't need to be on-board but processing does.
Is it fairly easy to split-screen so I may manipulate things on one side and share the other side via the built-in laptop external monitor jack or a tv/video card (USB or PCMCIA)?

How do I remove wallpaper that's been painted over? I want to remodel a small bathroom. The prior homeowners painted over the wallpaper, and I'd like to remove the wallpaper without damaging the walls. What is the best way to remove painted-over wallpaper?

Major Package Problem |
|
hi all, i am kinda new to puppy although i have been playing around and up until late have had a large amount of success and fun.
i really wanted to find a barebones puplet which obviously lead me to barebones puppy however after finding out that G-pup has SMP capabilities and all my machines have at least dual core my main is a quad core with HyperThreading making it virtually an 8 Core each running at 4Ghz the ability to have SMP is very important to me.
so after playing around with this very nice version of puppy i have noticed a large problem, being an Australian i have crapy download speeds and cannot re download all packages that i want to install into this puplet
this lead me to downloading all the packages i want to use via a windows download manager that i trust very much and has never done me wrong.
after getting over 20+ packages on my flash drive, i booted G-pup and started installing the packages i wanted however after installing 5 packages no more would install some say it did not download correctly, other say something about it failing and needing to be cleaned up manually. i figured that they might be corrupt however after rebooting G-pup i started with this packages that where previously "corrupt" yet this time they worked after installing about 5-6 packages it happened again. no matter what order i do it in after about 5-6 packages installed it wont let me install anything more.
this is obviously a serious problem and if any one could help that would be infinitely appreciated.

Very nice on my AMD Sempron 3000. Enjoyed experience of building own puppy from this barebones. To install Epdfview install cups as well. Latest Seamonkey works with Dbus Dbus glib and Libreoffice. Marvellous base for my own DIY Build. Many thanks Wolf Pup.

Question for darry1966.
I used the g_pup-1.2.iso from 412collection and the copy you have on sourceforge and I get the a bug (if is is a bug, I don't know). Selecting from the desktop menu 'Set global font size' does not work. I initially thought it was a bad download or burn but as two different downloads from differing locations leads me to suspect it may in fact be a bug.
Going a little further, the menu entry 'Set global font size' points to /usr/sbin/set-xftdpi and clicking on this indeed brings up the 'Set global font size' dialog. However, as further clicking to run again only runs intermittently and I have no idea why this is. Any ideas?

Hi Stuart,
I wasn't aware of this bug maybe someone can enlighten further on this one. Tried on my box which runs the GPUP based anitaos and both running from menu and from commandline works.
Restarted Xserver and changes took effect. The Dialogue comes up each time. Sorry for taking so long to reply.
