After many searches in the forum which have not led to the 'pot o' gold' I'm wondering whether this has been asked/suggested before.

Since I've not yet mastered the art of compiling source code for Puppy I'm hoping that someone has already done so with the DVD tools available at SourceForge at this link.

Especially the 'ifo dump' and the 'regionset' utilities.

Or, any other such useful tools from other sources?

One that would be very useful is a tool that would enable 'reading' the region setting on a DVD (disk) and other data pertaining to the video format, etc.

Is it possible to include such tools in Puppy?

Yes, I've been 'test driving' MediaPup for several weeks now on my PII 350 as a frugal. So far so good!

The reason I've been wondering about a utility that would be able to 'read' the region setting on a DVD (disk) is that beginning several days ago the DVDs I'm burning of Korean TV programs are playing on my 'region free' player but not on my 'region 1' player. I'm suspecting that a recent malware experience in Win98 may have tampered with some settings on my DVD burner or is somehow causing my burnt DVDs to be other than region 1, or in a video format that is not NTSC.

I'd like to analyze the burns I've made with this problem to see precisely what has happened. Do either of you have any suggestions?

Before the malware attack in Win98 (successfully removed by XF-Prot in Puppy) things worked well and all my burns were playable on both my DVD players.

I'm stumped!

When a burn is done with Puppy, can either of you explain the significance of the 'locale setting' that is used by the burner to determine certain characteristics of the DVD structure? This is relatively new territory for me and I've not yet been able to comprehend all the details.

The Pal or NTSC setting is taken from the medium your are copying or burning...if the source is PAL the burn will be PAL etc
