Thanks. I installed this and Java works fine in Mozilla, but not in Firefox or Opera.

sometimes the Java plugin will work in Firefox if you create a new user profile (for example, rename /root/.mozilla/firefox to see if it works) ... i don't know why it doesn't work with the old profile

is Java enabled in preferences?

i don't have Opera installed at the moment, so i don't know where the plugin goes ... Opera plugins may not work anyway without the motif libraries

Creating a new profile in Firefox fixed it, thanks.

Thanks a lot for this - just some questions.

Will this install be as good in live-CD method of using Puppy, or is the HD-install (type 2 full install) better? Or do you recommend any particular install method with this?

1) Java might be disabled in Firefox's preferences (Edit Preferences, Content), or by an extension like NoScript

2) i don't know exactly why, but sometimes Java will work in Firefox if you setup a new profile ... one way to do this is to delete the /root/.mozilla/firefox folder to delete the Firefox configuration files ... this will delete your bookmarks and installed extensions, of course

3) there might not have been enough space to properly install Java ... there should have been at least 100 megs of free space on the drive where you installed Java ... the Java installer from Sun does not display any error messages and does not return an error code if there was not enough space to install it ... it does not warn you that Java did not install properly ... the Java folder should be about 85 megs

4) i don't know if Java for linux can run from a fat32/vfat/Windows partition ... i think it must be installed on a linux partition
