SeaMonkey 2.0 latest nightly snapshot (May 06, 2009)
SeaMonkey 2.0 [latest nightly snapshot (May 06, 2009)]
With the speed of Opera, the features of Firefox and the stability of SeaMonkey 1.x, 'Salty Shrimp' 2.0 is light years ahead of the competition - a true web browser of the future:
What's new in Seamonkey 2.0:
--------------------------------------
* Lightning fast engine
* Greatly improved page rendering
* Supports Firefox extensions
* Plugin manager
* Full page zoom (with images)
* Customisable Toolbars
* Crash Recovery (Session Restore)
* RSS Feeds support
* Brand new look
* Increased Stability
and much more.
DOWNLOAD:

If Puppy reports any missing dependencies during the installation, just ignore the message.
Start SeaMonkey 2.0 from the menu (or run the 'seamonkey' script in /root/seamonkey), import your existing SM 1.1 profile and enjoy the flight
This package won't replace your existing version of SeaMonkey, so you can still use the good old 1.1.x with the original profile and test this cutting-edge build.

I have packaged and placed ch-seamonkey-2.0-prebeta.sfs in the puppylinux.asia repository for use in ChoicePup and other Puppy4.xx's.

playdayz, this is the latest nightly snapshot [May 06 2009] (much newer)playdayz wrote:The Seamonkey 2.0 beta is out now and I have used both the last alpha and the beta and I find it to be quick--quicker than any of the old generation pre-gecko 1.9.1 browsers. I also found it to be more stable than the comparable Firefox (3.5b4).
Using it now via the SFS package. Totally Totally brilliant! Have the .mozilla directory on sda3 and symlinked in root, so no increase in pup_save use. I even like the theme................jrb wrote:I have packaged and placed ch-seamonkey-2.0-prebeta.sfs in the puppylinux.asia repository for use in ChoicePup and other Puppy4.xx's.

Should I have all those dependencies missing when installing pet? I write this in it now, so it works, but still I wonder are they required... I'm on puppy 4.1.

@panzerpuppy
After installing the pet I was able to Help -> Check for Updates and update to today's nightly.
Then I experimented. I went and got today's nightly from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... est-trunk/
I installed it by clicking the tar.bz file to unpack it with Xarchiver into /mnt/home and then I ran it by opening a terminal in /mnt/home/seamonkey and entering ./seamonkey. This version needed dbus-glib to run. I used an old pet I had made for another reason
http://www.diddywahdidy.net/Puppy400/dbus-glib.pet
It ran but crashed almost immediately in Puppy 4.20. It ran nicely in puppy 4.1.2 and I am using it right now. For convenience, one can drag /mnt/home/seamonkey/seamonkey to the desktop and click to start. [panzerpuppy has provided the dbus-glib in his pet]
I usually use this method of install so I can update daily. The way I was having to update
seamonkey was to 1) download the new nightly to /mnt/home, 2) delete the folder /mnt/home/seamonkey, 3) click the new seamonkey nightly to unpack Seamonkey into /mnt/home, then it will run. Perhaps the Help -> Check for Update will work; I can't test that until tomorrow.
To get the fonts to look right, copy /root/.mozilla/default/funny-numbers/chrome/UserChrome.css to /root/.mozilla/seamonkey/funny-numbers/chrome/UserChrome.css.
I tested in NewYearsPup. The method I outline worked fine. I installed the pet and it worked fine also first time, nothing extra needed, and then *it updated by Help -> Check for Updates.* This would be the easiest way for someone to get into the loop it looks like.
For those who might not know, the speed is primarily a result of tracemonkey which is the new javascript engine in gecko 1.9.1, at least as I understand it. Oh yes, and finally, most or many of the seamonkey/firefox/swiftfox crashes are a result of flashplayer, again, as I understand it. One can get Seamonkey Flashblock at
It has to be version 1.3.13 or 1.3. unstable, afaik
http://flashblock.mozdev.org/installation2.html
Thanks again panzerpuppy for reminding me to play with the seamonkey nightlies. Now I wlil check in NewwYearsPup.
Gotcha, thanks, the pre confused me. Actually, I am running the Firefox/Shiretoko 3.5b5pre nightlies which I can update daily using the Check for Updates in the program under Help. I installed it is /mnt/home.playdayz, this is the latest nightly snapshot [May 06 2009] (much newer)

I have the .pet installed. On reading your post I decided to check by clicking on the check for updates menu item. Much to my surprise Seamonkey asked to download a recommended security update of 13mb or so. I am getting ready to restart seamonkey to complete the update.for some reason Seamonkey 2 won't update in that same way; it gives me an error that it can't find the Version or something like that
UPDATE
I rebooted to seamonkey with Build ID: 20090507000529
Could somebody do me a favor and try to replicate this error? Running 4.1.2 in an Asus eee 900, using the latest flashplayer pet, when I go to a moderate political blog http://www.donklephant.com Seamonkey 2.0 crashes while trying to load it. Can somebody try that site with SM 2.0?
Is it me or the monkey? Because donklephant works fine in the seamonkey that's standard with 4.1.2
Thanks,
Jake

jakfish,
Its running OK for me using the .sfs on ChoicePup4.1.2 with flashplayer10_070208.pet. Very slow to load with my limited bandwidth however.when I go to a moderate political blog www.donklephant.com Seamonkey 2.0 crashes while trying to load it.

In upup intrepid 015 I converted the 3 sfs in a 4 sfs and loaded it via the bootmanager.jrb wrote:I have packaged and placed ch-seamonkey-2.0-prebeta.sfs in the puppylinux.asia repository for use in ChoicePup and other Puppy4.xx's.

SeaMonkey 2 started with the import wizard.
I replied on all the questions.
When I pushed on the finish button, the system froze.
No way to get SeaMonkey 2 running again and the system freezes.
I had to 'uninstall' the 4 sfs to get a running system again.
Just to share my experience.
