Would it be ok to use this 1.1.20 wine sfs in upup?

I did not compile it in upupto, nor did I package the sfs with squash 4 (from the 2.6.29 kernel).. so maybe, maybe not if you try and it doesn't work let me know, now it only takes me a couple of minutes to do all the compiling and packaging.

There are instructions to convert a 3 sfs to a 4 sfs. So that's not really a problem. Maybe not being compiled against upup could be.
I'll try and report here.
In fact I did this already for the 1.1.19 412 sfs.
I don't know why, but sometimes the wine application freezes, mostly if I minimize and maximize again.

Hi, i had installed this already once, I have a question, what libs exactly do I need?

Now I will install them all, but it'd be nice to know only the ones I need.

all of the extra packages I compile against are "soft" dependencies meaning that you only need to install them if your exe requires them... they include:

jack
esd (aka esound)
ldap
xorg_full_dri

If you are using gpup you may also want
sane
cups
gphoto
exif

Once again if your exe does not use any of the features that these provide, you probably don't need to install them

(Note - the sfs includes jack esd and ldap - I didn't include xorg_dri due to size and compatibility)

In Jaunty alpha 6 I tried the converted wine 1.1.20
Applications as winefile run, but my e-mail client Pegasus Mail doesn't have an internet connection in wine anymore.
Had to go back to wine 1.0.1

I may have to compile with gnutls for it to work??? I haven't compiled that yet but it should not be difficult ... that only leaves capi (for ISDN) and hal. I don't forsee needing hal, but I will try to get gnutls and maybe capi in the next release in upup... don't know how I will test capi though???

Hello, technosaurus

I have set GnomePup following instructions from both Wow and MU.

I tried to install WINE 1.120 pet(all 3 sfs seats are taken) but doesn't appear in the menu.

I think this is because the Puppy version is a little old Dingo 4.00.

What version would you recommend to try?

I am clueless when I see no menu after install and reboot.

it was compiled in gpup with only default 4.1.2 pets added so either of those would be best as far as compatibility.

Alternatively you can get my pcompile pet and build it for whatever puppy you want

You will need:
the latest wineXXX.tar.bz2
a clipboard copy of my ./configure options from my previous post
and my goodies tarball expanded to a directory

it will build the pets and sfs for you - 1.1.20 was done this way

Wine comes with a program that is supposed to update the menu, but I have not gotten it to work with jwm or icewm - maybe due to the in-house method we use to build the menus???
If anyone would like to make a contribution to wine on puppy a HUGE need is a script that will parse the start menu entries in wine and build a corresponding <application>.desktop file (this would likely get prepended to somewhere in the fixmenus script??) - the other alternative is to use a desktop environment that supports the built-in wine program that does this.

anyhow - I finally got around to downloading 1.1.22 and will compile it using pcompile again after I update my extra files directory with the latest winetricks

on my system, wine creates files in:
/root/.local/share/applications/wine/
when I install a "setup.exe" (like Puppy Installer for Windows XP).

Those represent the icons on the windows desktop.
They have no category though, so they are ignored by the JWM menu, if you symlink that folder to /usr/share/applications.

Using the Pcmanfm desktop, they are shown on the desktop, if I copy or symlink them to /root/Desktop/.

Maybe a script could copy them to /usr/share/applications/wine/, and add a category line.
