Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset Driver??

#1 Post by dudds »

Hi guys not sure where to start. I'm pretty new to this Linux caper and have tried a few distributions including Ubuntu. However I recently came across Puppy and loved it. I'd really like to continue to use it however there is one small thing that is really annoying me at the moment and that is I can only get a maximum of 1280 x 1024 resolution via the xorg system (if that's what it's called).

When the initial hardware discovery process takes place for Xorg it tells me the resolution (for the monitor) is 1680 x 1050 (what I want it to be), but when X actually boot up the resolution is only 1280 x 1024, This looks ugly on my widescreen laptop display.

I'm happy to learn / read / follow instructions or what ever I need to do to get this working the problem is that at the moment I don't know the first place to start to begin to fix this problem. I assume that this is a driver issue. I was wondering if anyone out there is using a laptop with this chipset that can successfully run a resolution of 1680 x 1050?

I am using version 4.2 of Puppy if that makes any difference. Is there a driver that actually supports this chipset?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to offer.

Cheers,

David

try newyearspup 02rc10 mini/midi/maxi:

It includes the latest intel driver.
According to report it works fine, just on some notebooks there is no backlight. I have not found a solution yet.

Maybe the included "xbacklight" consoletool can help?

Thanks MU I just read your reply now. In the meantime I had downloaded a version of Ubuntu 9.04 and ran the live CD. It correctly sets the correct resolution of 1680x1050. Is there some way that I can find out which drivers it is using and use the same ones in Puppy.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for but did an lsmod and it had an i915 module loaded. Could that be the module I need?
