It is easier in some versions of Puppy than others, but generally the same principle applies.

1. Find the relevant /usr/share/applications/{programname}.desktop file for the program you want on the desktop.

2. Drag the {programname}.desktop file to the desktop and drop.

3. If necessary, right click on the resulting shortcut and choose "set icon"

4. Open your choice of /usr/local/lib/X11/pixmaps or /usr/share/pixmaps or /usr/share/icons and select an appropriate icon for your application - OR - if you know where the application resides and it has its own icon navigate to that location

5. Drag the icon to the open dialog box created when you chose "set icon"

You should now have a desktop shortcut complete with icon. It's way easier than it reads!

Hope that helps.

But when I choose "Set Icon", I get this window(see attached screenshot). And from there I can't choose any icon for my Pidginprogram.

You don't choose it from 'there'. Open a new rox window, navigate to one of the icon places mentioned above, pick one and drop it on that open window, then 'close'.
Or right-click another desktop icon, if the 'show' button is active click on it and it will show you the available icons, then as above.
