Wallpaper Express - v 02-3 Updated

#1 Post by trio »

Hi,

This is a wallpaper setter for you who wants a quick non confusing change of your background. Compatible with pwidgets users and non pwidgets users

Feature:
1. With preview at a click of wallpaper on the list
2. Directly list wallpapers inside /usr/share/backgrounds
3. Advanced button -- go to regular wallpaper setter

Include:
1. resizepng -- pwidgets users already have this installed, this pet will re-install
2. /usr/share/applications/wallpaper.desktop -- this pet will re-install

after install:
4.2 users: run refresh menus
others: run fixmenus from terminal and restart window manager

NOTE: better to quit by pressing quit button which erases the thumbnails, not by pressing x on window border

thanks & enjoy

Updated -- All will work on any resolution

good job trio - works well in 4.2 :)

Can the preview graphic viewer code be included into the existing wallpaper setter code?
We used to have a viewer but it was recently dropped to streamline Puppy . . .
Puppy Raspup 8.2Final 8)

I now know why we're meant to restart the windows manager :D
I tried to set a wallpaper but when I did, it didn't show up till I clicked the desktop. Then after that, everytime I clicked the desktop it alternated between the new wallpaper and my old one. Everytime it changed to the new one, it removed all icons but "home", and that icon was changed to a different icon than I had before.
That was my post before I restarted the WM

Anyway thanks Trio, it's great. I don't really like the built in wallpaper setter, as for me it doesn't show a preview. So yours meets a need, thanks!

Let me introduce to 'hover selection' - no need to click item in list to select it.
If you replace the <table> code with this one, the preview is much more fun :D

Code: Select all

   <tree rules_hint=\"true\" hover_selection=\"true\">
    <variable>SKINS</variable>
    <label>Available clock skins</label>
    <height>250</height><width>200</width>
	<action signal=\"cursor_changed\">. $WIDGET_DIR/functions -preview &</action>
    $TREE_ITEMS
   </tree>

Sigmund,

Hey, Thanks for your suggestion, after all, I can do bash is beause of you  "hover" function is fun, but it's kind of "getting in the way" for me..I like wallpaper express just the way it is now..a click for preview..

Dejan'

Aah, my friend..it's because of your suggestion!

Hi,

Nice wallpaper setter you have there, and yes, please share it, on the condition (in my opinion):
1. Dependencies: will it work straight away with puppy without phyton bla bla bla?
2. If you're the author than that's fine, if not please be sure it's free
And you might want to start your own thread if you can answer yes for both quetions!

Regards,
Trio

Aah

It's not plain gtkdialog..well, anyway my comments:

1. Obviously the size is too large for me, is it a binary? Surely you are a programmer, unlike me

2. Can't change directory?
3. Some of the functions are missing: slideshow and changing background as you click the radio buttons (center, scaled, etc)
4. Not compatible with pwidgets, and I don't know how to make it compatible as it is not plain gtk dialog

Nice work though, but different approach, I just provide alternatives (wallpaper express plus hacked std wallpaper setter) and keep them simple, small, but features rich (all the std funcs work plus preview), and straight forward (express if you want just to change background, advanced if you want to change settings)

Cheers

Stick with your .pet mate. Bloat is negligible.. works on an old crapper... gtkdialog has it's issues but we'll sort them... You are on the right track brother 8)

I agree

#18 Post by gposil »

I agree totally trio and 01micko...I only put it up as an alternative..it really isn't in the spirit of Puppy, but some will appreciate what programs like this can do for HDD installs of Puppy, where bloat is not so much of a concern...then we want the Puppy to be a professional alternative to main stream distros...at least that's what I think.... :)
