Ok Jay,
Hooray..we have a winner...all matched up now.
That's weird as I use wget -c to do the transfer...maybe the upload wasn't complete on .asia.

Composite Information:
From http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=1779102064&t=39162
Refer there for more information on compositing in JWM
Here are the steps to enable composite (for transparency/translucency):
First install one of the following:
xcompmgr-1.1.4.tar.gz
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=15590
(This comes pre-installed in PAW, no need to install it)
Or, if you prefer:
kcompmgr-2.02.tar.gz
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=15589
Then:
Quote: | 1. Add the Section/EndSection below to your xorg.conf (at the end of it also works)
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection
This is the only step necessary for PAW... |
2. Add one of these to .xinitrc before "rox -p /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin"
kcompmgr -n & # basic composite & transparency
-or-
kcompmgr -I 0.05 -O 0.15 -f -n & # composite, fade-in/out & transparency
-or-
xcompmgr -n & # basic composite & transparency
-or-
This is the default, already added....
xcompmgr -I 0.05 -O 0.15 -f -n & # composite, fade-in/out & transparency
Then you must restart X....

I have been waiting for this |
|
I've seen many multimedia Pups. But most were video or music oriented.
Seems like PAW is the one I have been waiting so long.
I hope that you consider adding Wings 3D and /or K3D with / without Blender.
(I do know K3D has many dependencies. It's a big job)
I tried Blender but I came from 3DS Max, Nendo and Maya. So Maya like K3D interface or Nendo like Wings 3D is more familiar.
I know there is memory restrictions but most computers today come with minimum 1GB RAM.
Even 2D artist needs 3D composition more often than not.
Some even use 3D just for video post or composition fuction in XSI.
Please take this suggestion into account. Thanks.

You also left out Xara Xtreme, that was pretty good, the older kompozer was good for web, Not the newer one I release version 2, that was buggy, and probably filezilla. A lot of people who do graphics also build webpages and uses ftp, Puppies gftp is ok, I compiled the one in 4.2 and that looks really nice:) but most use Filezilla. I never use Gftp just filezilla, maybe because they do like 12 security updates a year where as Gftp upgrades like once every bluemoon:)
Anyways very interesting project, any icon editors? Or batch image resizer programs? They are handy for artist, When I have to batch resize I usually go to the wifes pc and use Photoshop cs3. I do have a kde version that works really well but its a lot of fat just to resize like 30 images at once.

Hello,
@ Ttuuxxx, Yes, XaraXL is going to be there too, (see above screen)
As for Batch Editing, The intended program, Phatch, is a pain..But It`ll get in there too...Building a working Phatch is what started this in the first place...
Have a couple of Pups with it working, but still working on this one..
WXpython doesnt seem to install where Phatch looks for it..I`ve just got to remember how I got around it before..LOL..Shoulda took notes....
As for icon editors, IDK of any...But I`ll add `em iffn I finds `em...
Still, currently <250mb...so I have a little room left...
I`m saving each version as I go for a future "Lite" setup..
But this one can get pretty big, as most machines you`d want to do this kind of stuff, should have enough ram...
Maybe a "Tiny Paw" for older, more limited hardware, IDK...
Open to suggestions, comments and critics...

How about using sfs |
|
Puppyluvr, How about a modular approach if you are constraint by size problem?
Woof, Tinycore, ChoicePup all employ some kind of modular approach, meaning that only core boots up and connect and disconnect necessary applications.
ChoicePup's attaching/detaching fully built up sfs is a great way to be free from iso size problem and memory limitation.
There are many wonderful Puppies but I couldn't use them beacuse I ran out of RAM(Kernel panic, out of memory error). Unlike my wife's notebook, mine is old and has 256MB RAM. That's the reason it gets error message. I am planning to buy a new one with at least 1 GB RAM. Til then a modular approach like choicePup or at least using sfs is better for my old computer.
Although it requires installing many dependencies, K3D is more like modern 3D program. Blender reminds me animator Pro(DOS) when I started learning 3D Studio R3(DOS). The user interface turns people away.
I have found that there are K3D debian package as well as slackware package in Slax 609 module (lzm) I think you could covert the debian pac to pet(det2pet.pet)
Knowing Wings 3D is included in PAW, it became one of the most anticipated Puppies. Good work, Puppyluvr.

Hello,
Well, here we go...
P.A.W. beta-01...
Known bugs...
Xara listed in menu twice...
Firefox listed in Menu as Firefox 3...Not!!! FF3 is buggy, this is FF2...W/Flash..........IDK why it says 3...
Additional Software:
Blender
ImageMagik
Wings3D
XaraXL
And....Pidgin.....Forgot it 1st time round..
Some Python stuff..(in preparation for Phatch)
324MB........
MD5sum:
6dedc2fe42dd1e97cfaad67d1ada2082 PAW_beta-01.iso
Goals for Beta stage....PHATCH!!! / Bugsquashing...
Scanner and Printer support...
Looking at slimming a little where possible...
Phatch will put it at 350 or so....
Hey, 324mb is big..but look at whats in it......
Full Install, it runs in 256mb..Frugal / Pupsave you`ll need 512 or more or a swap file / partition...
1st Test/Build machine P4 1.8gh 768/ram ATI 7500 video...
2nd Test machine P3-600 w/384 ram i810 video bcm43 wireless..
Works well on both...
A "Lite" Edition is a definite need now, with a few SFS "modules"...
So.....Another learning curve.....
My mind hurts....

Hi, I'm watching this thread very excitedly! can't wait til it's complete. I'm not qualified to help really but the one question I would ask is have you given any thought to color management? I've been struggling with this in Ubuntu. I guess, due to it's Unix heritage, Linux doesn't have as much consideration for color management. this is rapidly changing but currently is still over my head to get put together and set up.
also I wasn't able to dl the beta from the .asia server, and it isn't on the .ca server.
should I wait til you get past beta, or is it running well enough for a novice like me to make use of it now?
thanks soo much!!!
Scott
