Those using wine might benefit from a tip from Jack Phinney of Codeweavers (who make Crossover Office--a commercial adaptation of wine).
What he says about Crossover also applies to wine
We've had a few Puppy users inform us that installing the Development Module for Puppy Linux enables functionality with Crossover, but without the Development Module they experience many problems in installation, general functionality, window rendering, etc. I wonder if you have the development module of puppy installed?

I actually remember this working for me in the past also.
