This is set up in Puppy 4.1.2. with the printer, a Lexmark E120n Network printer configured as such:

I connected the printer to my network and let it obtain an address from my router, after it printed out it's details I opened a browser and typed the address into the url field at the top, hit enter and let it open the web page in the printer.

I then changed the TCP/IP settings in 'Printer Settings/ Printer Server Settings':

Set Hostname I changed to Lexmark-E120
IP Address I changed to 192.168.0.94
I unticked Unable DHCP

Click Submit at the bottom.

Then proceeded to install the printer.

Use the setup Wizard, Menu/Setup/CUPS Printer Wizard.

At 'Do you want to add a new printer? click yes.

When the browser opens click on Manage Printers then at the last entry click add a printer.

Click Continue.

Enter a name like LexmarkE120 location Remote and whatever for comment, these have no effect on the printer setup.

Click Continue.

For Device select Internet Printing Protocol (ipp).

Click Continue.

For Device URI type in socket://Hostname or IP address plus :9110

I used a static address in the printer so my entry was like this:

Device URI: socket://192.168.0.94:9110

Click Continue.

For Make select Generic from the popdown list. Click Continue.

For Model select Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer - Cups+Gutenprint v5.o.q (en), This is usually the last entry.

Click Continue.

Hi Ian,
I'm trying to follow your method (which should be put in the howto or wiki) to see if my OKI can be made to work (long sad story - here - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=280406#280406)

i assume you mean in the printer's set up page you referred to not in windows or something else. I do have a problem changing anything at the printer since my windows boxes also depend on it and i had /needed special support to set it up originally. Lets see if we get past that.

My printer page does not seem to have any hostname field but i see a printer name that includes dashes and a model extension #. I assume this is equivalent.

My ip address is also fixed

DHCP? Can't find any reference to this item

Here is my printer's network setup
General Information
NIC Program 05.02
NIC Default D5.01
MAC Address 00:80:87:8B:19:28
TCP/IP ENABLE

TCP/IP Configuration
Method for Obtaining Address MANUAL
IP Address 192.168.0.4
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

Service
Web ENABLE
SNMP ENABLE

I suspect this is equivalent to yours

I got thru the rest of your instructions without problem but changed the port to 9000 based on seeing it in printer's pa...... holy somoly .. i goofed, put 9000 instead of 9100, i put the right # in your URI space as you suugggeeeesssteeedd and ..... wwoooopppppeeee

IT WORKS

THANK YOU SO MUCH

Someone give Ian 5 stars. And move this post to the manual or whatever.

Alls well that ends well. Smile
