Foxit PDF Viewer ......1.84MB Pet

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

Well The next best thing to adobe PDF, I gave it the default pdf Mime so when you click on a pdf, Foxit will open it automatically, if you uninstall it, it will revert back to your original pdf viewer setup.
ttuuxxx

Ps here's some Icons I found for it, if you wanted a 48x48 icon for say the desktop ?

@@@ Know issues @@@ (due to the fact is a precompiled bin)
-Print doesn't work
-Copy to clipboard doesn't work

also Its a precompiled binary, because they don't release the sources.

Actually maybe contacting them would be a good idea since they are really second place in pdf readers on windows, I would say 1st, but there are a lot of adobe fans, The more linux input they get the better the product will be, and the better for us in the short / long term :)

Bonjour,
@ ttuuxxx
Have you any info to localize (in french for exemple) Foxit Reader 1.
It seems there is only the Windows version which is localized.
I uploaded the lang_fr_fr.xml file for Windows, then it doesn't work on the Linux program.
I suppose there is something to do more than to put the localized file in the Foxit repertory?
Cordialement ;)

Dear ttuuxxx,

I write to Foxit on 25 jan 2009 and told them about this problem:
1. I get this error when launching an external link (i.e. the Foxit
site):

/usr/bin/gnome-open: /usr/lib/libpopt.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/libgnome-2.so.0) Error showing url:
There was an error launching the default action command associated with
this location.

2. When I try to print or enter print setup, the reader crashes, with the following error message:

./FoxitReader: symbol lookup error: ./FoxitReader: undefined symbol: gtk_page_setup_new_from_key_file
They responded immediately and sent my message to their programming team. All in all, Foxit Reader is very fast and renders well, except for antialiasing. Let's hope they deal with the bugs soon. Their binary was compiled on RH8.

With kind regards,
vovchik

unfortunately it crashes on eee pc when trying to open a pdf file with X server error
The program 'FoxitReader' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 20275 error_code 8 request_code 70 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

although runs fine on Desktop pc

Hi can you run it under 16 and open a command line on the desktop and type this in to start it
FoxitReader --sync
and try to crash it, then report back your error that it produces and I'll relay it back to the developers, Thanks for your help.
Also did you notice the amount of downloads in 3.5 days 284 wow this is really popular :)

Have been using Foxit in Wxxxxx for awhile. Quick and lite. Any chance it will work on 3.xx series without a lot of work?
Thanks stray

Dear straypup,

I am using Foxit Reader for Linux in Puppy 3.01 and it works fine - apart from the bugs we have all noted. Since Foxit do not provide the source, we are stuck with the binary they provide. Their version was compiled under RedHat 8, which is the version we are all using. The Foxit Win version also works fine in Puppy under Wine and doesn't seem to have the printing and other bugs - so we have a few choices.

With kind regards,
vovchik
