Ok I'll make one request but I bet it won't happen :)
The thing that keeps me going back to windows is photoshop mostly and sometimes dreamweaver, but I've been getting used to Kompozer now :)
Gimp I can use, but still doesn't look like photoshop cs3, Yes I had gimpshop in the past and that wasn't close either, but tonight I came across a version of gimp that is really close to photoshop and they package it for linux, but as bin files not sources, I tried it on series 4 which is my main OS and it crashes as soon as you make a page. If you could get that going that would be really great,
here's a link for GimPhoto.

If you guys were using src2pkg: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... rch-17.tgz
you could create tgz packages about as fast as posting the names of unpackaged software here. of course you'd want to convert them. src2pkg has a new feature which allows you to create and use extensions to the code which could be used to automate the conversion of the tgz's to pet format.
src2pkg also makes it easy to remove development files and compress bins and other space-saving operations -all with a single command.

Thanks for finding the sources mark, The next problem was it was all split into hjsplit files, then I managed to get into one package and start compiling, but then you get a thumbs directory error, and it looks like it was building a thumnail.exe file when it should of been a bin file.
If someone with better fixing packages up, has a chance the source package I repackaged in 1 file, just download it, set the permissions and start compiling, Good luck :)
This is the Gimphoto full source package
http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... 4.3.tar.gz

This is the version Of Gimp sources that it was based on
http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/ttuuxxx/ ... .5.tar.bz2

Thanks to anyone who gives it a shot.
:)

please compile it, without-gnome, without-dbus

Hey Jeff

the sources were a mess
I downloaded the sources
and did the piece it together
thing in the first step to get started cleanly

then "amigo" heavily cleaned the sources
and patched all the oddities in the source code
an incredible feat I should say since he
listed in a script what was done

I followed what he did on the sources on my box
cleaned them up per his script

then compiled and built on slackware 12.1
using the requested options

I have a working gimpshop 1.4.3 at 7MB

now I have to figure out the oddities to get it on puppy

but just wanted to let you know

will keep ya posted
UPDATED 2-7-09

later I'll upload the
patched source
http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/big_bass ... .3.tar.bz2

a slackware package from the patched source *just in case ..there are a few of us here http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/big_bass ... i486-2.tgz

and a pet for 4.12
still working on the pet : 0
but if you can't wait
there's a head start

*you need to uninstall the official gimp if you have it installed
before using gimphoto
because gimp photo is just a modified gimp
and there would be conflicts

Thanks for that BigBass and Amigo, its great to have help sometimes when things are past my level. I tried to compile it and it compiled fine, but when I ran it, it open up, then I dragged an image to it and it crashed, Then I ran it and again click open file and select an image and it crashed.
this is the error when I ran it via a terminal.

# gimp-2.4

(gimp-2.4:17706): Gtk-WARNING **: gimp-image-set-unit: missing action gimp-image-set-unit

(gimp-2.4:17706): Gtk-WARNING **: plug-in-icc-colorspace-assign: missing action plug-in-icc-colorspace-assign

(gimp-2.4:17706): Gtk-WARNING **: plug-in-icc-colorspace-convert: missing action plug-in-icc-colorspace-convert

(gimp-2.4:17706): Gtk-WARNING **: node type doesn't match 3 (Color Profile is type 5)

(script-fu:17729): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: gimp_wire_read(): error

thanks guys I really do applicate the help :)

I also tried your version for 3 on series 4, I just had to add 3 libs, but I had the same results as above.

The current Gslapt works great, however, there is a later version that may have some better features. See http://repository.slacky.eu/slackware-1 ... 1/?C=S;O=D also requires slapt-get http://www.software-mirror.com/linuxpac ... slapt-get/

Thanks,
Jim

pet for 4.12

http://www.puppylinux.asia/tpp/big_bass ... atched.pet

ended up doing a dirty deeds hack in the code but
look it has the viewer yeah!!

will do some more testing before uploading a test version
but looks really good so far

I like this thread we can test things before moving them to the main forum area

Well that worked excellent, Thanks for that, I'm going to be spending a heck of a lot of time using it:) You made my day. :D
I removed the documents/help files and fixed the .desktop file, it has a U% after the exec that gives you a error, but after that it was perfect 6.6MB pet. Greattttttttttttt!!!!
Thanks a lot once again,
Jeff

hey Jeff

so I don't leave this un-documented
mainly just for a reminder
for any future updates

here is a short run down
of the process

#-----------------amigo patched-------------------------------
please read this to see the all details what "amigo"
did to patch the sources a lot of work was done there
great job Gilbert !

/usr/doc/gimphoto-1.4.3/ChangeLog.gimphoto
/usr/doc/gimphoto-1.4.3/README.gimphoto-1.4.3
#------------------end-----------------------------------------

#big_bass
#dirty hack was here in line 137 and 138 !was not needed for slackware!
# this took a few hours
#/usr/share/gimp/2.0/menus/image-menu.xml
# Commented these out

137<!-- <menuitem action="plug-in-icc-colorspace-assign"/> -->
138<!-- <menuitem action="plug-in-icc-colorspace-convert"/> -->

#------------------------------------
libs that were added different than the slackware package made
from the patched sources for use on puppy 4.12

usr/lib needed
libslang.so.2* libxcb-xlib.so.0*
libaa.so.1* libwmf-0.2.so.7* libxcb.so.1*
libgtkhtml-2.so.0* libwmflite-0.2.so.7*

and /lib needed
libgpm.so.1@ libgpm.so.1.19.0*

the locales were stripped they were huge
you can take them from gimp if you need them

hope it runs smoothly for ya
so you can do some nice art work
