I got it down to a 2 minute boot! Not bad. Not great but at least the network card doesn't time out!
I was typing here within three minutes so now my original '5 min with Vista' can include booting, getting online, loading the browser (ff2), loading the forum home page, logging in, finding a post and responding. A 1000% improvement!
Thanks to all you guys who posted. Much obliged.

Mick

Yeah,
This tread has been quiet, but mostly thanks to Chris and partly to ttuuxx this vista celery craptop (see DJV Laughing ) is running ok, exept for some wireless issues. Now, I'm thunking this is not a vista problem but hardware. In Puppy it uses the iwl4965 driver for wireless, some intel chipset. At 3 metres line of sight to the AP it is slooooooowwww as in vista, ie, it connects but kinda like dialup! Not much faster in Puppy.
So I definitely thought hardware (maybe bios). Then I connected an el cheapo TP-LINK WN321G, puppy tells me rt73usb, Ralink chipset. And all is good, fast, how things go!
Any ideas?

It is a lenovo R61e CeleronM 2GHz, 2 GB ram.

Mick I have 2 identical motherboards, both with built in sound. on linux I had to use additional soundcard to have volume control on the taskbar, but volume on the media players always worked, how strange is that?
Its like the more you add to a pc, the easier it get to have it working properly.
