puplet desktop icons

#1 Post by nycjeff »

Hi,
So I was working on making my own puplet and I'm getting there, but when I do the respin and try it on a new machine, I seem to lose the icon pictures that I used for shortcuts on the desktop.
A shortcut button shows up, but the icon is the generic one for an application.
Any thoughts on why this would be?

that is because the /usr/sbin/remasterpup2 script does not have any thing that copies the files those files in /usr/share/... this includes background images

I am working on fixing that script as well but in the mean time I have developed an alternative that makes an addon_XXX.sfs to transform a default install into your puplet

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=37856

you can
try my script, (the one that copies all of /usr from your pupsave)
modify /usr/sbin/remasterpup2
manually copy your files over (it should tell you when & where)

The ROX Pinboard icon definitions are kept in /root/Choices/ROX-Filer directory in the globicons and PuppyPin files, and won't be included by default because they are considered "personal settings". When the script pauses and asks you whether you want anything from /root, you need to copy these across.

Hope that helps.

...PuppyPin files, and won't be included by default
The Puppy Pin files are copied and there is even a section in the remaster script that removes the drive icons. What you need to copy over is the actual icons you installed (to the same location) and any background images etc...

Yes, sorry. I was thinking of the Unleashed build, not the remaster.

thanks for the responses.

I have the icons copied to a /temp/root/my-documents/clipart
and they seem to copy over into the same place in the final product.
But the reference to the image doesn't seem to transfer.

I think I get it now.
I should be able to edit PuppyPin with the new locations of the files and have it pick up the icons wherever it is listed.
I'll go try that now.

EDIT: ok, not quite right, but probably on a closer track.

try running remasterpup2 from rxvt instead of using the gui to start it .... & report any errors when it gets to the PuppyPin section
