roxrightclicks Subject description: version 0.8.2 |
|
roxrightclicks
This package adds loads of extra options for file actions in rox when you right-click on a file. The actions are only enabled for filetypes that it would be sensible to use them on. (no option to open an mp3 in mtpaint etc.)
The options use icons symlinked to the desktop theme, so if you change the theme the icons will update automatically.
The pet is supplied with the links pre-built for puppy-4.1.2 in english if you are happy with this then you do not need to run the Rox-Right-Clicks application to regenerate the options.
The roxapp application that generates the right click options is in /root/my-roxapps. If you use a language other than english or would like to include options for extra applications you have installed then click on the roxapp It will take a couple of minutes to check your system and rebuild the options, you should see a progress window whilst it is running.
The pet contains over 600 symlinks so it takes a minute or so to install.
Dependencies
To get the Wallpaper and Trash options working I have had to bug fix those roxapps, you should upgrade the applications below if you are using puppy 4.1.2 or less.
direct link wallpaper-0.5.1.pet
thread http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=263481#263481
and
direct link Trash-0.3.3.pet
thread Trash Roxapp - Discussion Document
Zigbert also added an option to Pfind to enable the search here option, you will need to ensure you have at least
direct link pfind-4.6.pet
thread Pfind 4.6
and
direct link pfilesearch-1.11.pet
thread Pfilesearch 1.11
The "Add to Pmusic Playlist" requires an upgrade to Pmusic, look at the Pmusic thread here Pmusic Pmusic 0.5.2 is supposed to support "add to playlist" though it may still be buggy.

This is great news. Puppy is getting closer a polished stage.
Please consider to add 'Add to Pmusic playlist'. With the latest version, Pmusic has got the -a switch which allows this.

Thanks Will!
Its like going from a Falcon to a Faimont (Aussies will get that!), ie, wind up windows to power windows! Very nice.

How abaout convert to --> mp4?
... or other video formats?
I have an example here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=36217
you should be able to replace the input file with $1? no? and the output file to whatever/wherever - probably to ~/my-documents so .vob files on a DVD could be used

@zigbert
have added pmusic -a option
@esmourguit
This is my first attempt at localising. I used translate.google to do the transalation. My schoolboy/restaurant french guesses that the link comments are OK but I imagine the about text for the roxapp is not very good. I have now completed the localisation stubs in /root/my-roxapps/Rox-Right-Clicks/build-apps-rules.sh (I should rename to localise). I have used google to translate to spanish, german and russian as well. The po files should be fairly straight forward for someone fluent to correct.
@01micko
I don't think I have come clean before, I was born in Oz and lived there until I was eight. I've lived over 30 years in the UK and still consider myself australian. I understand the metaphor.
@technosaurus
There are a load of convert options that could be considered on video, audio and image files. Enumerating right click choices for a number of common options would probably put too many choices in the menu and probably still not provide users with the exact option they wanted. It would be great if someone created some small apps/dialogs that accepted a file as an argument and gave the user control on how they converted it.
Here are a few screenshots using different languages/gtk themes/icon themes.

Upgraded to 0.8.1, see first post
@aragon
Thank you, german is now included.
If anyone wants to submit extra po files they will be very welcome. I expect most of the existing ones could do with some corrections as well.

it completely killed my ability to edit with geany, either by clicking on a textfile [opening geany thru defaulttexteditor], clicking on 'open as text', or clicking on 'edit with geany'
4.12, frugal
would really like to get this feature back, any ideas?
edit to add, terminal example:
Code: | # geany /root/my-documents/shipnote.txt
bind: Address already in use
|
leafpad works fine, but i want geany

It shouldn't interfere with the left click actions
Sounds like there is a hung geany process hanging on to a network port (I don't know what it would use the port for). What do you get for
ps -ef | grep geany
try
killall geany
if not try rebooting
Maybe geany has hung because you have tried to edit a non text file

How long did it take to complete the roxrightclicks install?
