BOP does not exist
In fact I have never even heard of it
So only contact us if you are prepared to test or participate

Warning

Those participating in the Beta program (not that it exists)
will be open to deliberate attempts to hack their data and other security tests

Warning

Yes ,this Black Ops Puppy seems the way to go because just yesterday I received an email (supposedly) from my Interent Service Provider claiming to be installing new digital software for my internet pleasure and all they needed was my Logon and Password in order to facilitate activation of this new wonder.I do hope my account gets activated with Logon :Puppy Linux and Password: BowWow If not, then I can suggest Lobsters Black OPs Puppy.

To be honest I was going to contact a team of self hackers
who would attempt to compromise Puppy - from the lessons gained we would know what areas to focus on.

Some people have expressed a legitimate concern and interest in this area

How would you access a computer running Puppy Linux?
How would you access their hard drive (I have run several months without a hard disk)

Is the most plausible plan:
1. Homogenize Puppy so it is all the same [oops - well that didn't work]
2. Create some must have code to be included in the Linux kernel that can be accessed - well that is out of our hands
3. Do the must have code for puppy

Any other ideas?

hmm... some proxies... encrypted by default... truecrypt added... anti-virus/spyware/adware/rootkit software...

i think i might be able to make a release of 3.02CE involve some privacy defense features.

but it sounds like quite a bit of this was put into mind when puppy linux was created. We could however make it that pup_event is not loaded by default, possibly using the old puppy 4 and puppy 3.02CE as bases for this, but perhaps also using a hacked 4.1.2 as another base.

even though UPR has no networking or hard disk support (as it claims) i think that this should be done, but ONLY when the user wants to be able to do so.

this could mean ALWAYS loading etc into a ramdisk. This means that at each reboot, the system would not remember any of what was used for networking before it is rebooted. this means if you do save your session, the networking settings do not stay, but nothing else does either, except for a few things.

But while this would require more time at bootup, this would potentially make puppy the equivalent of an invisible impenetrable fortress.

who likes the idea of that :D

all we would need to do,is install TrueCrypt and modify initrd to load etc into ram kind of like how the initial filesystem when booting from pfix=ram would have the system in a ramdisk.

It could make a great and indispensable tool in the fight against the people trying to invade our privacy.

Aaahhhh finally. I've been hoping for this for a long time. I brought up something like this a bit ago and someone suggested the name "Retriever". I think with Puppys abilities and the way it works it would be so much more efficient than other insertion distros. Lead on clawed one, I'll help.

I do :D - LOADS

Is it possible to have ones network/wifi/firewall settings remembered, but still needing starting after booting, from a desktop icon? [like an on/off internetwork connector?]

That, in my opinion, would be the icing on the cake!

Instead of having to go through multiple steps each time, yet secure as heck :D

Anyone who can pull that off would do Puppy a great service IMHO

....unless you meant something else?

All we would need would be a program that would copy the configuration files (i think the wireless network info is in /etc/WAG) and copy them into a secure area. Than when you click it, you could choose between Setup Quick Recover, and using Quick Recover.

This could be done easily with some Xdialog and bash.
And since Xdialog seems to be a very Very VERY VERY popular, it seems like something that could easily be built with it, and have it blend in with the other P programs.

@Lobster
I'm currently leading Puppy 3.02CE, but once i finish that, or possibly finish building the beta of 3.02, i could put my usual time that was in 3.02 into BOP, I could also release it over secretive distribution channels. Like split files over email to those who want it.

Or better yet... Split files that merge into a TrueCrypt file, which you would require the code which i would send you in a PM to get at the ISO.

a tester would be good to have.

but i plan to test BOP using a set of virtualized systems.

partially because i'm behind a firewall.

but anyone that would want to test a ridiculously unsecure system could pm me. (not that it exists or anything  )

But any knowledge we get from this project which has a lack of existence will be put to good use in a PrivacyPuppy. A puplet which will hopefully be released with each major release of puppy.

possibly from 2.17, 3.02CE, and 4.2

and while this is unlikely, i might be able to make a PrivacyPup 1.0.8 for those that need it.

I could do that, I did that today for FreeCiv server I placed a start shortcut in the games menu and also a server kill button in the games menu, and it gives you a popup window with info that its started and when you click the button to kill it, it pops up that its been killed, very easy script it was, well took me about an hour or so to figure it out. But now it would be easy as cake.
actually i could even have it part of the network monitor, Like how it was in the 3 series where you right clicked on it and a menu pop-up happened.
anyways tell me what you think, I have a browser to build now for WhoDo

Yes, please, ttuuxx

Don't know why that didn't stay in?

I like the killscript/popup idea, but not in the games menu, just an icon [he he that changes ?/similar to mount/unmount icon?] 'NetStart/NetKill?'

i.e. clicking Netstart icon starts secure network configuration, changes icon to NetKill, waiting for user to end session, when clicking NetKill, network is killed & temp data flushed - true sandbox style
If repeatable at fresh bootup - I'll love you forever [joke, guys - I mean it would be well cool ttuuxxx : 8) D ]

Possible ? :D

That's my wish, anyways

I suggest those individuals interested in testing think about virtual machines or a separate computer connected to the internet.

THis came out in distrowatch.

http://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html

if we were to make a very evil puppy, i'd suggest this as a logo

Image

Perhaps we can turn it into a Vectorial graphic :P

I'll help, and i am so good, that i am willing to run a extremely vulnerable system (as long as the other user doesn't delete my good puppy ¬¬) but i think that's not gonna happen. I guess. I'll backup. LOL.

Or this one, it looks paranoid !
