I have a printer connected to my wireless network through Apple Airport Extreme router. I need to set up PuppyLinux to print to it. How do I do it?

First, read here.

Then run the CUPS Printer Wizard from the Setup menu. When it asks for a device, choose "AppSocket / HP Jet Direct"

Under Device URI, enter: socket://10.0.1.1:9100
This assumes that the Airport box still has its default IP address.

Then continue the setup with the appropriate printer driver.

Of course, this is only going to work if you already have wireless networking enabled in Puppy.

I had been having all sorts of trouble getting my wireless canon to work, read your fix ages ago and forgot to say thankyou.

I use a static address for my printer, as I have this entered in my router settings. This enables everyone in the house to know which address to use to setup and print to this printer. Also helps when I am installing various pets, and want to test printing.

So thanks heaps. Laughing

Howdy all,

I used the above info to install and setup an HP C6180 (Photosmart) printer. I went to CUPS to add the printer and chose the "AppSocket/HP Jet Direct" and then entered socket://192.168.1.102:9100 (my printer and port). Then selected the print driver. I used the STP01419.PPD which is for the HP Photosmart 7150 and it works fine. I have downloaded the HPLite/HPLip before and it hase the correct C6100 driver. I'll get that when I get around to it, lol.

Thanks for all your notes.

Puppies that contain CUPS 1.3.11 or later should auto-detect a remote printer that uses the socket: protocol.

Open the Administration tab and select Find New Printers.
