:D Hello,
Jon, is it a full or frugal install??
If a full, there is a whole process to go thru to mount an sfs.
If a frugal, the sfs goes outside your pup.xxx folder, not inside with your pupsave.
This normally is /mnt/home..but look and see..
From the pic, looks like a full install???

@EDIT...man am I blind...Full Install...I see it now.. :oops:
Am looking for the Post concerning Full Install use of SFS`s....
BRB...hopefully....I know Dougal made a script... if I can locate it...

Thanks. I tried just merging the contents of the .sfs into my existing install... didn't work out too well.

:D Hello,
If you`ve unpacked the SFS to a directory, you might try dir2pet and see if that works...
Prob not the most efficient way, but...

If the .pet works would you post it?

I took this off http://www.puppylinux.com/hard-puppy.htm

Code: Select all

2. Click on the devx_xxx.sfs in a ROX-Filer window to mount it.
3. Open a terminal in the mounted directory.
6. # cp -a --remove-destination ./* /mnt/hda2/
7. # sync
8. Close the terminal
9. Click on the devx_xxx.sfs file to unmount it
My very noob question is how do you open a terminal in the mounted directory?

Also my main hard drive partition is named sda1 and my swap partition is named sda2, would I have to change #6 to get it to work?

MrMaxwell;

In directory or folder: R-clik>window>terminal here.

Quoted example is just example; You woudn't find it too easy to
change sda2 even if you wanted.

I opend the terminal in the mounted directory and ran this:

Code: Select all

# cp -a --remove-destination ./* /mnt/hda2/
cp: target '/mnt/hda2/' is not a directory
# cp -a --remove-destination ./* /mnt/sda1/
cp: target '/mnt/sda1/' is not a directory
Any ideas?

Glad to see this is helpful.

Have you mounted that drive? Also, the .sfs will mount to something like (For DevX) /mnt/+mnt+sda3+devx_412.sfs

Also, I'll most definitely post up the .pet if i get it to working. ;) I'll just have to make sure to register it with the menu so it'll show up there...

Reverse your source and destination!
From your command line error, it looks likje you are trying to copy the files from / to the mnt/devx directory.
I think I still have the old SFS full install GUI script around.
It never did allow you to remove SFS files, but worked pretty good for installing.
If it was reposted with a disclaimer as an install only SFS utility for full hard drive installs, I cannot see any reason why that would not work.
Also, since it is a script, you might want to check it out in gleany.
Place it in /root/my-applications and then extract it.

Only for use with Full Hard drive installs. The Remove option does not work.

Thanks. I successfully added the contents of the devx_412.sfs to my full install by mounting it and copying the files over to / manually, just merging the contents as I went... took an hour, but it works. :D I'm going to do something similar with the OOo sfs, only I'm making a .pet out of it... possibly a .pup since it was requested...

The commands that worked for me:

Code: Select all

#cp -a --remove-destination ./mnt/+devx_412.sfs /mnt/sda1/
#sync
I finally figured out what the asterick was for!

To see if you truly have devx installed, open a terminal and type "make" or "gcc" without the quotes.
It should give you enough feedback to know if devx was correctly installed.

It looks like the devx sfs package did not get installed.
Further back in this thread, I posted an old utility to install SFS files to a Full install of Puppy.
If you download it and try to install with it, it just might take.
Did for me.

Typing make in a terminal is a quick way to see if the installation succeeded.
I remember seeing instructions on installing SFS files to a Full Install before, but I cannot remember them.
