BitTyrant a hacked version of Azureus 11MB + Java needed

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

Background:
BitTyrant is a BitTorrent client modified from the Java-based Azureus 2.5 code base. BitTyrant is designed to give preference to clients uploading to it fastest and limiting slower uploaders. It is free software and cross-platform, currently available for Windows, OS X, and Linux.[1]

BitTyrant is a result of research projects at University of Washington and University of Massachusetts Amherst,

As a strategic client, it has demonstrated an average increase in download speed by 70% over a standard BitTorrent client. Non-BitTyrant leechers in the swarm generally receive a decrease in download speed. Even so, if all clients are BitTyrant, high capacity peers are more effectively utilized, allowing for an overall increase in download speed. However, there is a caveat. If high capacity peers are involved in many swarms, low capacity peers lose some

Firewall NAT Issues

#2 Post by Fishy »

Works like a charm but I have firewall issues. I have looked at numerous posts but they all seem to be WAY beyound my capabilities. I don't remember installing a Puppy firewall and I am behind a router/ADSL modem. I have tried entering the listening port numbers from Opera (NOP 4) and pctorrent form Dingo 4 but azureus's Nat/ Firewall test gives a nat error?

Any EASY beginner suggestions will be greatfully appreciated. :)

By the way some of the posts said to disable the firewall if installed but NOBODY said how it was done. :(

Hi Fishy it worked perfect for me with My adsl router but I do have "port forwarding" enabled.
Basically you have to look up your adsl modem and find how to "Port Forward"
Its basically a url you type in depending on the Model and brand of modem. Then a configure screen opens and you follow the instruction.
Actually this site will probably be all that you need. :)

Working a Bit?

#5 Post by Fishy »

The change that you made to java allows it to work but after the initial use a problem occurs. I am using NOP 4.1.2 and when I set up a launcher it starts Bittyrant but after the initial screen it goes away. Using ./azureus in a terminal allows the program to function.

I have attached a screen shot of the terminal output.
