Happy christmas and a good new year! (and UltraPup)

#1 Post by MU »

Hope we'll get such a garden as in November, so I can enjoy long walkarounds...

Hi,
I will leave on friday to visit my mom.
I don't know yet when I come back, maybe before new years day, maybe some days later.

So I want to wish you all the best!
As a small christmas present, I created a lot of addons for UltraPup (name suggested by Lobster).
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=36592
With those, you'll have around 70 to 80% of functionality as Muppy had, apart from the new features and advantages it offers (like better modularity, newer Kernel).
Unlike Muppy, UltraPup is not developed by me, but by wow.
Sharing the work, will give it a more reliable base as a (almost) "one man project" like Muppy.
Those people, who directly contributed to Muppy (like GW), are encouraged to join UltraPup.
One next big step is full localization, wow soon will upload the required glibc locale.

I hope this great puplet will get a lot of people supporting it :D

I cannot answer questions until I come back, as my mom has no internet.
I just will check some important mails from an internet cafe.

Best wishes :!: :D

Like you I am impressed with UltraPup (UP)
and feel that it has the same impressive potential as Muppy - so with two developers of such calibre we might have a potential official Puppy 4.3 in the making. . .
However 4.2 is still emerging ;)

What Fun will the new year bring?
Have a great time Mark.

Happy Christmas everyone :)

thanks guys :)

Lobster,

until now, we had this situation:
Puppy was a bit "bleeding edge introducing newest stuff, while the deriving puplets were "settled", polished. Bugs were fixed in them, some more functionality added.

Now this seems to turn.
Puppy has reached a status of being "finished". The next release 4.2 will be the "polished, bugfixed" one now.
New stuff now is introduced instead by Puplets like UltraPup.

Of course, you cannot define it so sharp. Also puplets added new stuff in the past.
And I think this will turn again somewhen.
Once Barry has "finished" his "woof", I am certain, that he will create a Puppy based on this new technology. But it certainly will take many months (up to a year), until he has finished it so far and also took some time to do non-computer related things.

Thanks, MU. We're now seeing the ultra-flexibility in Puppy of sfs added as needed (on the fly). Thanks to you, wow, and everyone else who contribute the expertise and make these wonderful things happen.

Happy Holidays from the eternal warm tropics!!!

Downloaded the .ISO very quickly from the main site -- mirror has broken links or missing files.

Testing right now, seems real fine. Personally I'm OK with SeaMonkey, but at least there's no <Insert> key bug with Dillo... Will test some browser packages.

Very well done, a big THANK YOU to all who made it. Ah, and Xmas greetings, too!

Yeah, it's great what wow has done, also your input to MU. So, it now has a name!

The way it's shaping up, it might be Puppy5!

As to Woof, I'm working just as hard as I was before. I was supposed to be taking a back seat, easing up, doing some other stuff. But, this is an addiction....

Anyway, yes, after I get Woof 0.0.1 or maybe later version and you guys see that it could be the way to go, then it might slot in as Puppy6.

I don't want to get back in as the main Puppy developer, well, Woof is a distro builder, what packages you put into it is another matter.

I'm going on holiday too, off to Melbourne for first half of January, so New Year wishes from me too!

Try to get flying reindeer. This will make your journey miraculously quick.

Puppy Linux is also fast incidentally.
