Puppy linux on Openmoko freerunner.

#1 Post by Anders »

Well, I'm getting an Openmoko Neo Frerunner for Christmas, so... I was wondering if it would be possible to install Puppy Linux on it.

Hope you can help me prepere for this experiment.

I'm going to install the OS on a micro SD that's 2GB large.
Specs for the OM Freerunner.

* Touch Screen
* 2.8" VGA (480x640) VGA Screen

* ARM9 @ 400 MHz
* 2D/3D Graphics Acceleration

* 128MB SDRAM
* 256MB NAND Flash
* microSD Slot

* Wi-Fi (802.1 1b/g)
* AGPS
* GPRS (2.5G not EDGE)
* Bluetooth 2.0
* 3axis Motion Sensors (2)

Not expecting to make phonecalls from Puppy linux, and I don't need to have touch ability (would be awsome) but it is simply to just try it out, and see if it works.

ARM9 @ 400 MHz --that's a no-go. Puppy is an ix86 distribution and will notmrun on other arches.

I'm may be about to start on a port to ARM -ther are plenty of them out there, though if you look around. openmoko itself is one.

I can see that I will meet some problems, but even though I'm not a developer, and not an experienced Linux user, I will try to succeed.

I've bought another micro sd card and also been reading on how to take backup.

I've tried to run Openmoko on Qemu but didn't manage to get it but it is quite possible. It's also possible to run it as a operation system but this takes some skillz

Qualcomm is hiring Linux developers (for a port to ARM/Snapdragon):
