My Puppy is more gorgeous than yours!

#1 Post by Lobster »

In order to keep myself bewildered, This desktop background image is partly based on the real. Some icons are real, some are not.
I am told no pills are available for this condition . . .

My desktop is still more plainly gorgeous than yours!
It went to the poodle parlour and had enhancements.
The Mac-menu packaged by MU and the idesk.pup package.
It is of course a standard Puppy Sizzler.
No KDE or Grafpup or dual booting . . .
With idesk I turned off the fonts by editing the script (double right click on any icon) I also used autohide with JWM

What is your Puppy?
  • You can't touch this!
    See below for initial attempts
    Simple and usable
[ahem]

if you want to try too, use this method to provide evidence. . .

Code: Select all

Take a screen shot using Start//Graphics/mtpaint snapshot

scale image by using
image/scale canvas in mtpaint
(width of about 580 for above sizing)

Mine is better.

As for that gtk theme, it's "smooth-peachy-clean" forcibly taken from vector.

Except that XP doesn't look good.... Okay, it's not that bad. That actually resemples my 98SE when not using LiteStep. I messed with the regestry to let me use a bunch of XP icons. I eventuall set up a custom icon library and pointed it to that, so I could just replace the library to change icons. But I started using Puppy before I got a chance to take advantage of it.

Some day I plan to make a "Pretty Pup" (Definately only a tentative title  I can do much better) Pizzapup 1.0.5 was only a fraction of what Puppy is capable. I want to work on guts for now, though.

My Puppy

#12 Post by klhrevolutionist »

Well I would have to say my puppy looks the best.
And has momentum. As most of the apps you might see.
But there are a lot of commandline tools that I use.
For instance I used png2swf to create this little flash presentation.
I was going to dotpup swftools, but it is to much for me and not many
people request flash tools.

So enjoy the presentation as amatuer as it is.

I normally only have about five icons, because it's faster to click an icon than dig through menu's. I stick a couple on the toolbar too. I just hadn't gotten around to removing and moving my icons yet when I made that screenshot. I used to use the desktop a lot back in Windows, but I started using Litestep, and though it supports links on the desktop, it is nowhere near as easy to use as when Explorer makes it. It also doesn't look good if you recycle (restart) Litestep with anything covering the "useable" area, so I tended to make that part small, which limited me to two rows of icons. So I was already weaned of the cluttered-desktop syndrome when I started Puppy. In fact, the default puppy has far too many icons for my tastes. The interfere with my wallpapers. But I see where it's good for newcommers and lazy people because it makes it faster to find stuff. Really, the wallpaper-lovers and minimal-desktop people are the ones being wierd, because they are sacrificing functionality for looks. Strangely, though, the heavy-users are the ones who go minimalist, and random Joe has the cluttered desktop. I guess it's because they stare at the screen so long that they need to look at a nice wallpaper every now and then to sooth their eyes. :)

Oh, and I'm lumped in with those "wallpaper-lovers and minimal-desktop peopl." After all, I'm the one who has about 100MB of wallpapers that I've yet to use.

OK, so here is my entry! This is Puppy 1.07a with Gentoo icons and a Firefox wallpaper. I think I need to lose a few icons, but they look so nice :-)
