I would love to try out your remaster. Does the card reader work too? I'm guessing the microphone works properly too as you added Skype.
There is a real demand for a working linux distro on these things other than linpus and Puppy has all the right stuff.
Unfortunately, humyo will not allow me to use a download manager.
I can only download during certain hours and I have to limit speed.
Would it be too much trouble to upload elsewhere?
I can't specify an alternate but maybe someone else could please?

Try ftp://puppy:puppylinux@ftp.servage.net
and create an Aspire directory there.
EDIT: Hosting is compliments of GermanPup.

My first post, so hello to everyone
This looks really good for the one, and works a treat for me, except it fails to boot with an sd card in either of the slots, which with a lowly 8gb version, is a bit of a sod.
Other than that its really good, and only having bought my one a week ago, and being a bit of a Linux noob, its great to have discovered the mine of information that these forums are.
Best regards
Frenchie

Hi everyone.
New to Puppy, been using Ubuntu for a while on my main laptop.
Looking forward to trying this out on my new Acer Aspire One when I'm home from work and contributing to working out any kinks as much as I can.
One quick question regarding the remix, is it setup to reduce SSD wear by default (i.e. no filesystem journaling, temporary RAM partitions for logging, etc...)
If not the Ubuntu Acer doc has some good info on configuring these, would that all apply under Puppy as well?

Just an update
Almost ready for another release based on MU's .27 kernel pup.
Audio works volume is low
wireless including wep works
openbox with cairo-dock and pwidgets
I had a question about extra function keys and have started looking in to this. What I had included in the last realease was useless but I am gaining an understanding of the system and have updated some programs to help with this. I hope to have this working in the next couple of days.
Here is a peek

Volume seems much better!
all hardware works except some function keys that is what I am working on.
The wireless switch works, but after you turn it off and then back on you need to run the connection wizard again.
Both sd card readers work if the card is in @ boot.
No wifi lights due to ath5k driver not supporting it.
Still working on a way to get the external monitor function key to work without killing X or Rebooting. Any suggestions would help.
I will probably try to get a lid close to trigger a shutdown as I haven't played with hibernate at all yet.

Fanspeed control requires being able to read/write to the AAOne's embedded controller, and so far no one has written a utility or module to do this, but it can be done with a Perl script.elling wrote:What about the fanspeed control?
There are two approaches. The first is the "acerfand" shell script which manages a perl script called "acer_ec.pl" -
http://the.taoofmac.com/media/Acer/Aspi ... notes.html
The second approach is a series of perl scripts (fanlow, fanhigh, fanoff) which are activated by hotkeys.

In both cases you would need to install perl, possibly from Petget, although this is a stripped down version of perl.
UPDATE May 25 2009:
Acer fan control driver now available here

Could those 2 downlodable scripts be used for Puppy?
They work fine in Ubuntu and Mandriva..but I tried in Puppy, and nothing happend.
Maybe because of I didnt had Perl installed

AspireOne loud fan = failure
The first ACER AspireOne I had also had a very loud FAN (Windows & puppy) so loud the speakers had a hardtime being heard. I ran regular puppy version from RAM setting. And Just powered off without regular shutdown. Flipped it on its' front (fan side up) allowed it to cool. And after a few minutes I needed to do sometime in windows and the little guy did not even make it pass boot.
Just three weeks, Costco allowed me full refund which I used the pay for another just like the last. The second ACER fan is MUCH quieter (like you should expect for such a low power machine)
Hope You saved the store slip, get it replaced!!!!!
