#1 Post by zigbert »

pWidgets
Desktop widgets for Puppy
It's a utility to use conky and xonclock as the engine for desktop apps.

Download (username: puppy - password: linux)
pWidgets-2.5.8-486 (213 kb)
pWidgets-2.5.8-x86_64 (233 kb)
- Includes 34 widgets/screenlets/applets and an optimized conky 1.6.1 and all other dependencies.

- Check wiki for extra widgets and more info.
- Quick reference
- Langauge support

Note!
If you have looked into pWidgets poor theming, please note that it is possible to make individual themes for each widget. See /root/.pwidgets/themes/Stardust-orange/. Here you see 'main' and 'Ram'. Main theme is used when no individual theme exist.

Special thanks to the pWidget team

Use the conky package linked in the main post. It includes xli.

Too late, already found an xli.pet from petch.

The configs run on my desktop if I run them thru conky in a console.

This is with pwidgets in console trying to start battery:

Code: Select all

05:05 PM ~ # pwidgets
killall: conky: no process killed
killall: xonclock: no process killed
conky: invalid option -- -
No more xli message! :)

This shows up when closing pwidgets window:

Code: Select all

05:25 PM ~ # pwidgets
killall: conky: no process killed
killall: xonclock: no process killed
conky: invalid option -- -
/usr/local/pwidgets/pwidgets: line 79: /root/Choices/ROX-background.jpg: Permission denied
/usr/local/pwidgets/pwidgets: line 80: Clipping: command not found
/usr/local/pwidgets/pwidgets: line 81: Building: command not found
05:26 PM ~ #
Maybe I'll unload the conky and xli I have and start from scratch with the one in your post.

Yes, I can't get the Analog Clock to display either, although Conky leaves the correct amount of space where it should be. No amount of desktop clicking brings it up either.

so far, though, it is looking JUST GREAT! Thank you, Sigmund. Probably Beta standard already IMHO - the simulated transparent background even updates properly, albeit slowly, even when original is stretched! 8)

Is there any way to remove just one widget from the list, or is that a conky limitation?

Configure button doesn't appear to work for me - does that function for only selected widgets or is it for all widgets?

Btw, thankyou Zigbert for this cool tool.

Ok, been playing some more, tried to setup pwidgets simply with, "puppy linux", "analog clock" and "calender" in the right hand column. Hit apply, sure enough I had "PuppyLinux 4.10" at the top, a space where analog clock should go, then the calender.
I ran "fixwidgets" in a console and here is what happenned,

these shots overlap, you can see. Hope this sheds some light. :)

It should run fine on Puppy 3.01, but as Sigmund says it's not tested there yet.

The beauty of Pwidgets is that it is small ... very, VERY small.

Hope that helps

:D Hello,
Yes, it works great on 3.01....

@zigbert,
Dude, this is great..I love the easy configuration, just like Conkey.
One question, how to get it to write to the root desktop?? (Personal reasons)..
This is a winner, the choir sings on....

No analog clock

Pwidgets package did not include the xonclock executable. I have uploaded it again. Download from main post.

Warren

The config button opens geany with the widgets config file(s). Maybe it would be better to rename button to 'Edit config file'.

There is no configs for the analog clock. But you can change the clock by setting another skin. The file is /root/.pwidgets/configs/Clock-analog.png

Done and done! Thanks. But the real accolades go to Zigbert (and of course yourself  ) for my desktop. And also must mention Hairy Will, WhoDo and disciple.

Have you configured the fonts for Pwidgets? It uses 'monotone' as default. With this font spacing in calender will be correct, and alignments of the different widgets becomes correct.

Could it be that my package didn't install the font correct?

A very nice desktop :!:

No, I did nothing. Didn't even notice! lol. Was so wrapped up in analog clock that all else blew by!

If you look at your first screenshot in this thread, everything is ok.

/usr/share/fonts/default/TTF/MONOFONT.TTF is the one you need.
Something must have gone wild during your second install of Pwidgets.

You can either try to install another time, or just copy this font from the pet package.
If you rename pwidgets-0.1.pet to pwidgets-0.1.pet.tar.gz you can just click on it and xarchive will open it.

With the best widget greetings
Sigmund

Bonjour,
Very nice tool indeed.
But calender is a bit bizarre. The first week is only six days. And the 1st is thursday when the 2nd is sunday.
What did I do wrong?
Version 4.11.
Cordialement ;)
