Develpup 1.0 rc1 Sub_title: Puppy Linux for Developers and Coders |
|
EDIT: THe iso is here:
http://puppyisos.org/isos/2008-07-to-12/develpup-rc1.iso
User: puppy
Password: linux
_____________________
Work on Develpup 1.0 rc1 is nearly finished. However, before I release, I was wondering what changes I should make before I release it.
Some highlights:
-Preinstalled Devx
-Code::Blocks C/C++ IDE
-Boost C++ Libraries
-Java JDK 6
-Netbeans Java (and more) IDE
-Python 2.5.1
-murgaLua 2.6.9
-Git
-Fluid (for FLTK)
-Conky
-Grub GFXboot
-Gimp
-FirePup 0.2 Web Browser
-A modified desktop look
And more...
Some questions:
-Should i switch from JWM to KDE/GNOME (qt4 already installed)?
-Anything else I should add?
-Anything unnecessary that I should take away?
-Anything else?
Also, the WebDevelopment Menu is empty for the moment, so if someone had an idea for an app to add there that would be awesome. Also, if someone could try getting the webtoolsextensions sfs package for develpup 0.1 at http://puppyisos.org/isos/2008-07-to-12/develpup-webtoolsextensions.sfs it would be a huge help (that package has PHP5 and MySQL), since I have NO IDEA how to configure it for Linux (i configured a similar setup for windows about a year ago, but have since forgotten the steps. Besides, thats Windows. blech. ).
THanks in short,
Me.

Hi! I was waiting for such Puppy distribution. It's great to see there is something like that
Well, I suppose you to add gem, ruby and Apache2 with PHP5 and MySQL.
Gnome or KDE would be too big, so use here some small window manager. Also I'm not sure about NetBeans + Code::Blocks. Both have C++ support. Anyway, NetBeans is neccessary.
CVS and/or SVN tools are included?

hi polymath,
some possible additions:
- gob2 (http://www.5z.com/jirka/gob.html) see attached pet (dingo)
- scons (http://www.scons.org/) see attached pet (dingo)
- paco (http://paco.sourceforge.net/) see http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=34428
- fontconfig http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=32438
- qt4-4.3.2 from http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet_packages-4/qt4-4.3.2.pet as this should be the corresponding qt-package to the qt-dir in the devx
- For webcreation you might include kompozer http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=94206
- actual version of upx http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=31217
WM: Please stay with jwm!
- Other changes (you might have that): Add to
My recommendation is to definitively include paco as this is an extraordinary helpful tool for compiling/packaging.
cheers
aragon

use this version of Komposer, The reason why I packaged it as a "pet" the other link is a "pup"
makes it easier to install on 4 series.
Also Flash4Linux is good (I have to update the package for 4.1)
and Firefox has some great addons for web developement
like
fireftp
http://fireftp.mozdev.org/
Xinha WYSIWYG editor https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1449
plus others

A bit late, but how about an assembler? NASM and FASM are both available I think.

Is this right?

Alright... I know that NASM and ld are in devx. I've included most of your other requests. For now, there's a PHP PET package of 5.2.6 that i compiled on puppy attached. Also, the iso is uploaded to the ftp server for puppyisos.org, the only thing left is for MU to move it to the appropriate area. I'm hoping that it'll be up soon...
Anyway, would anyone like a tarball of my unleashed setup? Just curious.
Finally, here's PHP: http://www.develpup.110mb.com/php-5.2.6.tar.gz
Inside is a tarball. You'll extract it and run the installer by clicking on it. Sorry for not posting as a pet, I'm not allowed to upload as a pet (it's too big for upload right on the forum).
Other questions:
One: Does anyone know how to modify puppy to allow a multiuser environment?
Two: Does anyone know how to change the filenames of puppy sfs files so that the files are dvp_xxx.sfs and dvp_save*.sfs?
ME.

Website: http://www.develpup.110mb.com
A couple requests:
-Someone PLEASE provide a better Fluid icon than the one I have right now.
-If someone has suggestions for the website please supply. I'm a crappy web developer (even worse then my programming)... And I'm still working on the website.
That's all for now.
Anyone found any bugs? Wait, scratch that, the iso hasn't been moved to public access yet. Give it a while...

The ISO is available!
It's at http://puppyisos.org/isos/2008-07-to-12/develpup-rc1.iso
You can also get it at one of puppyisos.org 's mirror sites.
Reminder: The PHP package is at:
http://www.develpup.110mb.com/php-5.2.6.tar.gz
And the website is at:
http://www.develpup.110mb.com
Finally, I'll try to get mySQL working...

In regards to the website, fix the broken links!!! Other than that, it's very nice and simple. Keep it that way!! Many people get too caught up in adding bloat and graphics and that just slows people on slow internet connections. Also maybe change the the background to darkgrey or something. Or dark text on light background.

@106498:
The reason those links are broken are cause i haven't coded those pages yet
I don't have much time, i'll try and get around to it soon.
Has anyone tried the iso yet?
If so, please let me know what you think, even if you say it is terrible and the worst you've ever seen. But if you do post that, please tell me why. If you tell me why then that is a million times more helpful (albeit slightly less reassuring) then showering it with praise.
Some more details:
Based off of puppy 4.00
Kernel 2.6.25
A whole bunch of libs
Also: The ISO boots off of grub, any problems with this? Splash screen or something?
Thanks all.
