Bump. Is anyone able to make a pet of 1.6.3 of Cairo Dock? Either that, or could someone please tell me the steps taken to make the above pets, and compile this on puppy? I'm using 4.1, and kept running into errors with glitz, saying glitz could not be found. This was after installing the glitz pet, and finding the libraries in /usr/lib for glitz. What did I do wrong? Ran the auto configure command recommended in the INSTALL text file, and was told the glitz package could not be found. Tried telling the program where it was... and perhaps I didn't do that right... anyway, am happy to start with a clean install and have a go at it, but could use some advice and encouragement... anyone recommend any tutorials about compiling, or can walk me through what they did with cairo-dock? Thanks.

Have you installed glitz_DEV-x.x.x.pet? Try this one if you have installed my glitz-0.5.6-i686.pet. Or download the source code from http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/glitz

I'm getting there. The DEV file worked beautifully, and no longer get the compile error complaining about a missing glitz package... it just complains about dbus-1 and dbud-glib1 instead....

Got dbus from source and compiled the latest version. Everything went fine. Still the same error message. Then got the source package for dbus-glib, and had a go compiling that. It complained about missing the dbus package...lol. Any thoughts on this? I guess the good new is that I'm able to create pets of these as I go... but still haven't cracked it. Where did you get these dependencies from? Cheers matey.

edit: reread this thread, and found a couple links to dbus and dbus-glib packages... will try them later.

I've installed Cairo Dock 1.6.3 yesterday night in Puppy-3.96, don't know if it will work in Puppy-4.10, just to test the GMenu applet

That look great! I love Cairo Dock. You've got me hooked now. Can you please talk me through the steps you took to compile this bloody thing? It can't be as difficult as I've made it. I don't need an in-depth guide, just a brief outline of the steps you took to get it working. We definitely need this for Ripple. How difficult do you think the menus will be to hack in order for it to work with Puppy? Cheers wow,

It's already done 8) . There're 3 menus in my gnome.sfs, pick a .menu file from /etc/xdg/menus/:

- applications.menu.GNOME is the default gnome menu.
- applications.menu.MU made by MU and was posted here
- applications.menu.WOW is the one from the video.

Cairo Dock 1.6.3 rc2 for Puppy 4

Cairo Dock 1.6.3 rc2 for Puppy 4

I've tested this package only on Puppy-3.96 and Puppy-4.10.

Download: Requires: I'll complete this list some other day :sigh: Launch Cairo Dock with this command:

Code: Select all

cairo-dock
Notes:
  • 1. fabounet: fake transparency is now integrated in the config ("System" tab), so no more -F option.
    2. It crashes as soon as you press any [Browse] button in preferences if you don't have gnome or at least gnome-settings-monitor running.
Good luck!!

Yay! I'm glad you've still got fake transparency... that's part of what I'd like to use with Ripple for box's that can't support Compiz-Fusion. Have been playing around with these latest, pets, and love them! Haven't had a go at compiling from your instructions wow... and still yet to rebuild my test bed of ripple from scratch, but getting there. I notice that when I click dbus in the applets X crashes... any thoughts on this? I pulled off everythig saying dbus from your gnome sfs wow... no luck. Was wanting it for the compiz-widget functionality, though for now I've found another way of putting cairo dock's widgets on Compi-fusion's widget layer...

Am loving the menu applet, it's working beautifully, and have put it on the widget layer. I'll look into hacking the menu script to further customize it at a later date. Main issue now is Rox... using it for a desktop manager does weird things with compiz... I think this is an issue for widgets in general. Basically the dock, and other windows, hide when they shouldn't. When X first loads with Rox, I need to click on the desktop to bring up the widgets and Cairo dock... for some reason it wants to hide under Rox. Any thoughts on how to fix this? I'm guessing there must be some way of asking Rox to stay on the bottom of everything... but not sure what it is yet. Thanks again! We are getting there.

Seems that dbus was not completly installed, try to install dbus and dbus-glib from:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=25009
Also read this to learn more about dbus: http://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/dbus-faq.htm

This had happened since Puppy 2.14. Delete '/root/.config/rox.sourceforge.org/ROX-Filer/options.xml' to create a new config file, this fix the problem but you have to configure it again.

Thanks for that tip about dbus. Still no luck, it crashes when I click on it. I might leave it for now as Cairo Dock works fine without it. Your fix to Rox worked... bummer of a work around though. Is it likely this will have to be done periodically? I could always work this into the startup script, but it will suck if this has to be done every singe time. Cheers.

Well, yes. Here's an SFS: Cairo-Dock163_411.sfs [user & password] [download] [read more]

But, you'll need SquashFS-LZMA 3.3 to mount it (unnamed puplet, newyearspup, exton 2009)

I compiled 2.0.5, but I am not sure how to set it up as of yet - I was hoping I could get it working on my intel card. Here are the .pets if anyone would like to test them. (I did whole new minimal compiles of dbus, dbus-glib and gtkglx since they aren't in puppy by default anyways) I compiled a bunch of the plugins too but that pet is ~4mb and the .asia server is down until July, but I can temporarily post them elsewhere. If someone gets the dock working I will post the plugins that I compiled to the web desktop (hosted by servage so I try to minimize it)

Edit - I can get the configuration window, but it complains about Xcomposite extension not available even though it is installed and I even checked the compile and it linked to /usr/X11R7/lib/libXcomposite.so... I am just curious to see if this is just my system

Ok, I compiled CD-2.0.5(in my puplet) few hours ago and got it working after replace the config file. However, it'll fail to start if you play around with the configuration window then restart the dock.

I have to replace the config file(cairo-dock.conf) to get it working again.
