NOP - Nearly Office Pup is a puplet meant to be run from a USB stick (or frugal install) and is called NOP because the office apps are missing. The idea is that you use an SFS module to add the office apps you want. This can be in the form of OpenOffice, or Goffice (Abiword/Gnumeric/Inkscape) or even a Koffice sfs !

This version of NOP is based on Puppy 4.1 with the pupevent system modified for the xfdesktop.

NOP uses Xfce as the desktop / WM and so has had Rox and JWM removed.
Seamonkey is replaced by Opera (shared libs version) as the webbrowser / mail client.
QT and Flash plugin are included.
Xine-ui replaces Gxine as media player.
Galculator is the only calculator.
Osmo is upgraded to 0.2.2
RutilT is also included.

Xsane has been removed along with Notecase, Homebank, Expensetracker, Pmusic

Note you will need to rename goffice1_400.sfs to goffice1_410.sfs for it to work.

Includes all relevant bug fixes marked SP1 on BK's blog to effectively bring this to version 4.1.1 of puppy. Now also 'compiz ready' - for Nvidia cards only the Nvidia driver, libwnk, Wow's fusion and Python for CCSM pets are required.

I've been using Nop since it first appeared, with easy upgrades of my highly developed configuration including Wine and Qemu. This time of course I had to change hda2 to sda2 in a number of commands, no way around that, I suppose. Xfce is the best.

Nice one, gray! Shouldn't those wind turbines be geothermal plant?!
I always enjoy your work, not least because you listen more carefully to comments and act upon them, viz. Opera, Xfce, Xine-ui, etc.
Perhaps, best of all, gray, you are the only person to solve and apply the no-power-off Power Off feature that has beset generations of mutt followers. I've notified the Palace to engrave a gong for you.

Four quick notes:

Thanks for incorporating the latest shared qt opera. Try the opera email client folks. The 'filter' paradigm takes a bit of getting used to but having the email smoothly reside in the browser is pretty adictive.

Broadcom 43xx works immediately with the B43 native driver!!!!

For those of us rural dinosaurs still using alphanumeric WEP keys, enter s:xxx for the key to get s: as required by iwconfig if the WEP key is alpha.

As has been the case with all initrd.gz since 2.xx, a one line patch is required to get PUPMODE 13 when using ataflash (was ideflash in retro kernels) and passing pmedia=ataflash from syslinux.cfg.
I edit init (within initrd.gz) as follows:
copy line 553 (Barrys patch for classmate internal usbflash)
make a blank line 554 and paste it there
change usbflash to ataflash in that line

All in all, VERY smooth, unfortunately I'm hooked on the look'n'feel of Boxpup now.

I am not fond of opera but Grays work on the previous NOP
made me 'a believer'. I used NOP for a while
it became the basis for wNop (now in new ripple flavour - will the Alpha be a raspberry and the final a strawberry?)

I had forgotten that Gray is more than able to create a version of Puppy.
Maybe Puppy 4.3?

Like Marv - I too am hooked on Boxpup - Brilliant

So now I have the best of both - if a Boxpup 4.1.1 is in the pipeline (please)
could you add a small battery indicator or alternatively - add the appropiate lines to conky.

That for me would be perfect for my laptop.

i use asapm -withdrawn to have battery monitoring inside stalonetray in boxpup

2gray: do you plan to continue boxpup also based on 4.1 or next puppy
this is the best one

From the menu, pppoeconf fails to start.

interesting but i also played with green themes and was thinking on green "port" of stardust and use the same wallpaper now

get used to openbox so much
so i even replaced xfwm4 to it

Finally installed NOP 4.1 to a USB.

First off, WOW.

+ For the Green theme; the black text in the bottom panel is much easier to read. Also, it is a refreshing change from the standard blue hue.
+ For upgrading Opera but keeping the classic theme; although, as a suggestion, you may want to set the default colour in Opera to "Jungle" so it matches up better with the new Green theme.
+ For adding the volume applet to the bottom panel by default.
+ For apparently implementing my solution for SoundMax audio problems (http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=34175) and having PSM and PhoneOut turned up by default.
+ For intergrating the new "in-house" Puppy apps introduced in 4.1.
+ For the new wallpaper. Very relaxing.

Still, I still have a few nitpicks:

- The default text size in the title bar could be a bit bigger (perhaps size 12-13).
- It would be nice to have a "Show Desktop" button in the top panel by default.
- A network status applet in the bottom panel would also be a nice addition.

Other that that, there isn't really anything to complain about. This is truly the closest thing to a small and portable Xubuntu as you are going to get. Keep up the good work!

grey do you think there is that much benefit in removing rox? its only like 400kb and jwm is like 68 compressed

personally id rather ditch thunar and stick with Rox but that is just my opinion I hope i get a chance to burn a copy of NOP 4.1

Much easier to use Rox for rescuing computers.
For example permississions,,,deletes.

Why not throw it in as an extra.
Booted USB through defaults...OK.

But this is a hardware issue.
Another 2 gig Stax USB needed MBR Bin on Puppy 4.1.?

Hi Gray! just wanted to thank you for this excelent puppy!!! its beautifull and fast!. And finally I can use ndiswrapper and connect with my Linksys WPC11 using WPA

I'm soo happy about it!.

Just a quick question, I want to install open office and using the puppy package manager I installed open office 2.2 from puppy 3 repos, but when I click it to open it after installed nothing happens

, which open office would you recommend me to install???
