Problems attaching with new Serial to USB Cable converter.

I have an External Serial Port Modem which I have previously used with Puppy 3.01, 4.0, 4.3 and which also works well in Windows 98 SE and Windows Vista.

Yesterday I got a cable that is a converter to go from a Serial Connection and plug into the USB of my computer. I installed the Windows drivers from the little CD that came with it to Vista, and it works OK.

Puppy Linux 3.01 sees that the Network is now on the USB line. NdisWrapper offers me a lot of drivers that refer to ethernet and Broadband type connectors. None of them accidently work either, I tried. I did not think they would. I suspect that I need to first install something for the computer to properly use a Dial Up Modem down a USB line. Then link up the proper modem driver to that.

I am not learned in CLI. Have any of you fought this dragon before.

Even worse. I have not exhausted all the things I should try on my own. The little CD that came with the cable has drivers for Red Hat 73, 8, 9.

I am guessing Debian has one as well. I will stop working on this until after the next stable version of Puppy 4 is out. I do not have the SFS file to do compiles for Puppy 4. And have some other things to do for awhile. If nothing else. I just acquired a CD of DragonFly BSD. I will see if it wants to come out and play.

I will leave this post up to see if anyone has done this kind of project before.
