Just feelin like a lost puppy..PCMIA ethernet problems

#1 Post by wyvern »

I love the Pup, but my D-Link DFE 690-TXD ethernet controller does not. The D-Link website has the source code for the driver, but then says you have to compile it yourself-a subject of which i know nothing... is there an already cmpiled package for this? or do I have to go hat in hand andbeg someone to compile this for me? Help?

Don't feel intimidated by the word 'compile'.

Once you manage to do it once, you'll see that it's not complicated.

There is a very complete wiki page that describes the process:

http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Compiling

Of course, the first time I am sure that you will have many questions. Just read that page and ask any question you still have, It does not matter how basic it seems.

Hi Wyvern,

Take a look at this page:

http://www.linuxforum.com/linux-hardware/pcmcia.html

It doesn't list the DFE-690-TXD, but it does list the DFE-670-TXD, and says that that card is compatible using the "pcnet_cs" driver.

Have you tried that? If not, it's worth a shot; the upgrade to 690 from 670 may still use the same driver. I think that driver is probably in Puppy's list but can't check it just now myself.

Do give it a go and let us know how you fared...

Best Regards,

kcin
